Roma defeated Novara 2-0 in the Stadio Silvio Piola on Saturday night, as goals from Bojan Krkic and Dani Osvaldo ensured that the visiting team climbs to seventh place in Serie A.
The match started brightly for the visiting side, with Erik Lamela looking dangerous early on. With six minutes gone the young Argentine found some space on the edge of the box before unleashing a powerful drive, but his effort flew straight to Alberto Fontana.
The game had slowed down with no real chances created, however in the 18th minute the home side had a goal disallowed, a great cross from Marco Rigoni was met by Francesco Marianini but the former Empoli midfielder’s header was ruled out offside.
The game continued to run at a slow pace, but just over half an hour in, the home side went close when Rigoni’s neat ball found Takayuki Morimoto on the edge of the box, but the Japan international was denied by a good save from Maarten Stekelenburg.
On the stroke of halftime Rodrigo Taddei almost gave the Giallorossi the lead, the Brazilian winger cut in from the left flank before trying to curl one past Fontana, but his effort sailed just past the top corner.
The second half began with the visiting team still struggling to break down its stubborn host, but in the 67th minute, Fontana was forced into a great save to deny substitute Bojan Krkic long range effort.
Then moments later the home side should have taken the lead, Riccardo Meggiorini beat Marco Cassetti on the right flank, leaving the striker with a one on one chance but Stekelenburg rushed off his line to make a great save to deny the home side.
In the 73rd minute the away side took the lead through substitute Bojan. A beautiful chip from Miralem Pjanic was met by the young Spaniard made no mistake to give the Giallorossi the lead.
Then minutes later the visiting team struck again when a great corner from Fernando Gago found Osvaldo in the center of the area, and the Italy international’s powerful header left Fontana with no chance.
This result sees Roma jump to seventh place in Serie A, and the club will now be hoping to build on this result at home to Lecce, while Novara will be looking for its second win of the season away to Genoa in the next round of Serie A.
