Roma 1-0 Palermo: Lamela nets debut goal as Luis Enrique's side bounce back from last week's derby defeat

A debut goal from Erik Lamela gave Roma a hard-fought 1-0 win over Palermo at the Stadio Olimpico. The eighth minute strike from the young Argentinian moves Roma up to sixth in the Serie A table and continues Luis Enrique's respectable start as Giallorossi coach.
With that derby defeat still fresh in Roman minds, it was perhaps unsurprising that it was the capital club who started the brightest. Constant early pressure eventually led to a goal from Lamela on eight minutes. A left-footed shot from 12 yards out curled across goal and past Tzorvas, the Palermo number one, to give Luis Enrique's men a 1-0 lead.
Roma continued to dominate possession, with Daniele De Rossi in particular bossing the midfield and setting the Giallorossi off in almost every attack.
Goal scoring opportunities though, were at a premium. David Pizarro and Marco Borriello both went close for the hosts. But it was Palermo, who had barely touched the ball in the previous 30 minutes, who had the best chance of the half. Eran Zehavi burst through the Roma defence right on the stroke of half-time, only to have his shot saved by Maarten Stekelenburg.
It was Josip Ilicic though who had the Rosanero's best chance. A bursting, counter-attacking run from Abel Hernandez took Palermo 18 yards from goal. A wonderfully delicate ball found Ilicic, who calmly went round the on-rushing Stekelenburg. His left-footed finish was ambling towards goal, only for De Rossi to rush back, and slide the ball out for a corner. And with that, Palermo's chance of a first away point of the season vanished.
That win for Roma moves it up to sixth in the table with 11 points. Whilst Devis Mangia's side slide back down to ninth.
