Inter and Roma earned their first points in this year's Serie A with a 0-0 draw at the San Siro. Despite playing just its second game in the league, the pressure is already on Inter manager Gian Piero Gasperini following an opening day loss to Palermo and shock defeat at home to Trabzonspor in the Champions' League.

Gasperini made two changes to the side that lost at Trabzonspor, starting Diego Forlan and Diego Milito up top in place of Giampalo Pazzini and Mauro Zarate. Roma manager Luis Enrique continued to ring the changes, making four switches from the starting lineup in the season-opening 2-1 loss to Cagliari. Simon Kjaer made his Roma debut, while David Pizarro, Fabio Borini and Rodrigo Taddei were handed their first starts of the season.

The match started slowly for both sides, as the two teams took their time to settle into the game, and it wasn’t until the 11th minute that there was an attempt on goal. Daniele De Rossi played in Roma new boy Daniel Osvaldo, however Julio Cesar was there to turn the striker’s low drive away from goal.

Then less than five minutes later Roma was dealt another blow, with Maarten Stekelenburg being knocked unconscious following a nasty collision with Lucio. The Brazilian had been played through on goal and as both men raced towards the ball, the center back accidentally struck the Dutch international's head with his right boot. It was a worrying scene for the away side as the team watched its new goalkeeper carried off by stretcher to be replaced by Bogdan Lobont, who helped keep things even going into the break.

The second half started brightly for Roma with Francesco Totti’s neat through ball finding Osvaldo behind the Inter defense only for Julio Cesar to deny the former Espanyol striker again. Minutes later, Diego Milito almost opened the scoring with a diving header following a Wesley Sneijder free kick, but unfortunately for the Argentine he dragged his effort wide of the post.

The two sides were starting to get forward more often as the last 20 minutes approached, but it was  Inter who looked the more likely to score with both Mauro Zarate who had earlier replaced Milito, and Sneijder going close with long range efforts. It was Diego Forlan though who went closest to opening the scoring when his curling effort from the edge of the box went just past the far post in the 76th minute.

With five minutes to go the Nerazzurri again went close, with Wesley Sneijder having his effort cleared off the line by Kjaer. When the final whistle was blown, both sides were still without their first wins of the season and will be hoping for better luck in next weeks fixtures. Roma hosts Siena while Inter travels to Novara in Round 3 of Serie A.
