Juventus rode an early goal from Fabio Quagliarella to a 1-0 win over Chivas de Guadalajara Wednesday night in the World Football Challenge.

Mexican international Jonny Magallon appeared to have dealt with a long ball over the top without issue in the 12th minute, when the turf gave out beneath him. He could only watch from his prone position as Quagliarella capitalized to open the scoring at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, N.C.

A similarly flat ball over the top a handful of minutes later also caused difficulty. Luis Ernesto Michel had to rush off his line, and took Pepe's shot in the face from close range.

Chivas' best chance came just before the half, when Miguel Ángel Ponce uncorked a hard shot from outside the 18 after a corner had been worked to him. Marco Storari deflected the ball up and over the net.

In the second half long-distance shots provided most of the chances for Chivas. The best of them was a free kick which Jorge Mora thwacked off the upright.
