CHESTER, Pa. - The temperature may have cooled in Philadelphia, but the playoff race is heating up. The Columbus Crew and the Philadelphia Union came in to Saturday’s match five points apart in the standings, with Columbus leading the Easter Conference on 41 points.

Philadelphia was playing its third consecutive match at home, with another streak tagging along: The Union hadn't won in eight matches. That came to an end Saturday night with Philly beating Columbus 1-0.

"Overall I am very happy with playing a full 90 minutes with high intensity," Union coach Peter Nowak said. "Plus, we beat the leaders."

Sebastien Le Toux continued his return to 2010 form, scoring the game's lone goal in the 32nd minute on a breakaway assisted by Roger Torres. The goal was his third in three matches, and seventh for the season.

"I was happy to start in front, for the first time in a long time," the Frenchman said. "I can score goals there like I did last year. It has the type of action I like."

Columbus never retaliated, putting just one shot on goal the entire night.

With the victory, its first since July 17, Philadelphia remains in third behind Sporting Kansas City in the East.

Columbus will now return home to take on the league-leading LA Galaxy next Saturday. Philadelphia will travel to LIVESTRONG Sporting Park to take on Sporting Kansas City on Friday.
