Sporting Kansas City 1-0 D.C. United: Kei Kamara's early goal pushes Sporting KC to second place in the East

After spending the first two months of the season as Major League Soccer's worst team, Sporting KC's latest win sees the club in second place in the Eastern Conference.

Sporting Kansas City continued its astonishing rise to the top of the Eastern Conference as a 1-0 win over D.C. United at Livestrong Sporting Park. Peter Vermes’ men continued their exciting turnaround as the team now sits in second place after spending the first two months of the season in last place.

Sporting KC forward Kei Kamara took advantage off of a poorly cleared cross in the penalty box and pounced on the ball just outside the box to power it past United goalkeeper Joe Willis.  Once it got the lead, the club operated more defensively.

The team won 68 percent of its duels in the midfield and limited D.C. to only five attempts on goal. Still, United almost threatened when attacking midfielder Dwayne De Rosario had a shot on goal in the penalty box that just sailed above the goal post.

D.C. sits just outside of Major League Soccer playoff picture at sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 31 points.
