Goal.com rates the performances of the players involved in the Borussen derby on Saturday afternoon.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen

3.0

Was a bit unconvincing rushing off his line, as shown for the opener, but improved as the game progressed. Controlled his area well, and did superbly to deny Gotze in the second half.

Filip Daems
4
5
3.0

Showed some great technique going forward and was a rock at the back in the first half. Won all but one of his challenges, and kept Gotze' influence to a minimum.

Havard Nordtveit
4
5
2.5

Was not his normal efficient self as he had a hard time stamping his authority in the center of the pitch. His tackling in particular was bad, but did well with his passing.

Dante
4
15
3.0

The Brazilian had his fair share of troubles against Lewandowski, and more often than not was beaten by the Polish striker Was dragged out of position easily, and had a number of lapses in concentration. Could have been sent off after an awful challenge on Ilkay Gundogan.

Martin Stranzl
3

2.5

The Austrian had an average as was beaten in the air on more than one occasion, including for the opener. Was slow at times, and had to be bailed out by his teammates on a couple of occasions.

Patrick Herrmann

4
3.0

The enthusiastic winger had a very quiet game as he was isolated from the thick of the action. Did his fair share of defensive work, but had minimal impact in attack.

Roman Neustädter
4
6
3.0

The defensive midfielder had a shaky first half and should take responsibility for the opener after he collided with Stranzl in the box. Improved greatly in the second period as he became a calming influence at the back.

Juan Fernando Arango

3.0

The Venezuelan is finally showing his class in Germany, and delivered yet another superb showing. Created an immense chance for Dante in the first half, and assisted the equalizer with a sublime through ball. Ran a lot, and was Gladbach's focal point in attack.

Tony Jantschke
4
7
3.0

The defender had a great game at the back, but was very disappointing in the final third. Time and time again he would send hopeless crosses, and was guilty of some cheap turnovers. A match to forget.

Raul Bobadilla
2
9
2.5

Started brightly as his strength allowed him to get the better of Santana early on. Had a chip cleared off the line by Schmelzer in the ninth minute, but from then on he started to fade away.

Mike Hanke
16
4
3.5

The Germany international had just one chance, but he took it with aplomb. Looked dangerous on the ball, and never stopped looking for the right position in the box.

• Substitutions
Roel Brouwers

A late substitution.

Mathew Leckie

The young Australian could not make an impression in his few minutes on the pitch.

Roman Weidenfeller
13

2.5

The goalkeeper had his fair share of shaky moments, and probably could have done better for equalizer. Allowed to be easily beaten by Bobadilla with a chip early on.

Mats Hummels
18
16
3.0

The center half had a very good game, reading the play superbly, but should take some of the blame for the equalizer. Bailed Santana out on a couple of occasions, and distributed the ball well.

Lukasz Piszczek
53
11
3.0

The Polish defender had a sub par game as he failed to convince both in defense and in attack. More often than not Daems got the better of him on the flank, and will generally be disappointed with his performance.

Felipe Santana
11
26
3.0

The Brazilian had a few good interventions, but also a number of concentration lapses. Could have done better for the equalizer, and wasted a great chance after the break as he sent a free header over the bar.

Marcel Schmelzer
15
21
3.5

The defender made one major mistake in the 9th minute as he kept Bobadilla onside, but quickly made amendments as he cleared the Argentine's chip off the line. Was stable at the back, but offered fairly little in the final third.

Sebastian Kehl
4
32
3.0

Struggled to exert himself in the middle of the park as he chased shadows for most of the game. Failed to impress with his passing in a fairly poor game.

Mario Götze
11
56
3.0

The Germany international was often forced to change position in order to find space, but still managed to be a constant thorn in Gladbach's defense. Showed great creativity and vision, but missed a golden chance in the second half with only Ter Stegen to beat.

Kevin Großkreutz
4
72
2.5

The Germany international had a storming first half as he often charged forward to great effect. Was wrongly stopped in his tracks by the linesman as he was rushing on goal on one occasion, and put in a lot of effort to trouble Jantschke. His efficiency in the final third waned as the game progressed, but his defensive contribution against Herrmann was invaluable.

Ilkay Gündogan
16
60
3.0

The Germany international had a decent as he distributed the ball well, and even put in a lot of defensive work. Orchestrated Dortmund's attack well, and showed good vision.

Robert Lewandowski
102
47
3.5

He did score the opener, but also wasted three great chances which could have put the game to bed. His inability to beat Ter Stegen in the 15th, 62nd minute and then again just before the 80-minute mark proved decisive.

Shinji Kagawa
16
53
3.0

The Japanese blew hot and cold in this game. Was isolated for large parts, but then would pop in with a quality pass or dribble. His final ball was not entirely convincing.

• Substitutions

Jakub Blaszczykowski

Failed to influence the game after coming on.

Guilty for a late miss.
