  Huntelaar has been one of Europe's best strikers this season, but Hummels made sure the Dutchman only received possession in benign areas. The defender also deserved an assist for setting up Barrios with a sitter that the striker missed.

  Lukasz Piszczek

  Made two defensive mistakes and was somewhat fortunate not to be exposed, as he surely would have in the Champions League. Ran tirelessly up the right flank, however, and was a constantly available outlet. In the end, neither Draxler nor Pukki could do much of anything in attack, which speaks well for Piszczek's efforts.

  A superb performance from the Bundesliga's best backup center back, who made sure Neven Subotic was not at all missed. Formed an excellent partnership with Hummels, and scored BVB's second with a striker's finish.

  Nearly netted from a free kick in the opening minutes, and then assisted Lewandowski's goal with a well-taken set piece. Made some great runs forward, though he was not always able to nullify Baumjohann.

  Added much-needed steel to the BVB midfield, offering enough stability to allow Leitner to try more dangerous playmaking between the back and forward lines. Won the ball bravely time and time again, and was tidy in possession.

  Not at his sharpest, at least in and around the box. Played Barrios in on goal early, and not long thereafter was denied by a phenomenal save. Made a few brilliant runs and played a few sublime passes, but very little came from his efforts.

  Started the game very brightly as he had one opportunity miss over the bar and nearly assisted a goal for Gotze. Worked hard and defended well throughout, but faded in influence in the latter stages of the match.

  It could have, and perhaps should have been 4-0 or 5-0 in the end, but the stopper made a few world-class saves. Most noteworthy are those to deny Gotze on the half hour mark, Barrios ahead of Dortmund's second, and Lewandowski at the death. A fine show from a player who can be thoroughly disappointed in his teammates.

  Made a few bad - and unnecessary - challenges and was booked for one. Guilty of a mistake that should have seen Gotze convert from close range. A disappointing performance from the young Greek, who will have to learn how to keep his cool in big games.

  Had a lot of activity on the ball, but often ran out of confidence and resorted to punting aimlessly upfield. No better at the defensive end, as he was badly beaten by Gotze, and then booked for a very poor tackle made in frustration.

  Marginally better than his opposite, the Austrian was cooler with the ball at his feet and better in one-on-one situations. Was occasionally beaten for pace, though, and caught upfield on several occasions.

  Made one extremely brace clearance off the line to deny Barrios a tap-in. Uninspiring otherwise, though, as he had difficulty coping with the Paraguayan striker's strength, and was all too often given the runaround.

  Cleaner in possession than his teammates, and quick to the ball as well. The youngster proved a dangerous attacking outlet as he made some nice runs and nearly equalized after the break. However, he could only rarely make such moves forward, as there was little support behind to compensate for his absence in defensive areas.
