Hoffenheim 0-0 Bayern Munich: Visitors' winning streak ends at 10 games

The Bavarians were forced to settle for a scoreless draw as energetic Sinsheim outfit stymied its visitors.

Hoffenheim and Bayern Munich played out a 0-0 draw on Saturday afternoon in the Bundesliga. The result ended a 10-game winning streak in all competitions for visiting Bayern, but extended its run to 11 matches without conceding a goal.

The village side took the game to its Bavarian visitors, who, for the first time in recent memory, looked very unconvincing at the back. Roberto Firmino nearly put the visitors ahead on 22 minutes as he nodded a free kick towards the back post, but Manuel Neuer made a sensational diving save.

The hosts continued to press, and were unfortunate not to be awarded a penalty on 34 minutes as Gylfi Sigurdsson was felled in the box by Daniel Van Buyten.

Hoffenheim goalkeeper Tom Starke was only once put under pressure, and managed to take the sting out of Jerome Boateng's shot before Isaac Vorsah cleared off the line.

Bayern regrouped after halftime, but even the introduction of Arjen Robben for the ineffective Franck Ribery at the interval did little to spark life into its attack. The club's best chances of the game came around the 70-minute mark, as Thomas Muller skilfully took down a cross at the edge of the six-yard box before Isaac Vorsah made a last-ditch challenge to knock his volley out for a corner.

Seconds later, Bastian Schweinsteiger netted following Van Buyten's parried header but the goal was disallowed for offside.

The final 15 minutes of the match was played at a snail's pace, as it appeared that the two teams were both content with the result as it stood. Bayern had a few glimpses at goal, but with Mario Gomez withdrawn for the latter stages of the match, lacked bite in front of goal as the likes of Vorsah and Marvin Compper superbly held off their opponents.

The result sees Bayern remain first in the Bundesliga table, as Monchengladbach failed to capitalize on its chance to go ahead. In spite of the earned point, Hoffenheim slips to sixth following Dortmund's victory over Augsburg.
