Bayern Munich routed Freiburg 7-0 with Mario Gomez bagging four, Frank Ribery netting a brace and Nils Petersen completing the scoring in injury-time as Jupp Heynckes men moved to the top of the Bundesliga.
In a tremendous performance from the hosts, the scoreline could and perhaps should have been greater if Thomas Muller, Toni Kroos and indeed Gomez had finished guilt-edged chances.
But all that will be forgotten in the post-mortem of the game as Bayern was simply too good for the visitors. The Bavarians were three up by halftime with a brace from French International Ribery and a Gomez strike.
Bayern took the lead after only eight minutes with Toni Kroos setting up Gomez to finish after some good work from captain Bastian Schweinsteiger. Gomez then turned provider setting up Ribery to finish off a quick counter attack from the hosts.
Ribery added a brilliant third showing class, technique, pace and power to send the home fans wild in celebration. The Frenchman and Gomez combined again to deadly affect with Ribery setting up his teammate for his second of the game and Bayern's fourth. Gomez then fortuitously grabbed his hat-trick, the ball bouncing off his shin and into the net for 5-0.
Muller was then brought down in the box and Gomez slammed home the spot-kick for his fourth of the game. Nils Petersen completed the rout in injury time with his first ever goal for Bayern, volleying home a cross from Schweinsteiger.
It was Bayern's fourth straight win after opening the new season with a defeat. The victory also sends them top of the Bundesliga table ahead of their visit to Villarreal in the Champions League on Wednesday.
