Player Ratings: Tottenham 2-0 Fulham

Adebayor's early opener calmed the nerves before Defoe added a second on the hour-mark but although Spurs did their job, Arsenal's win ensures a fourth-placed finish

    Brad Friedel

Took one good cross at his back post and made a good save off Riise. Made his best stop from Dembele on the 35th minute but had to stay alert late-on as Duff hit the post before he tipped over a rasping Dembele effort.

  • Younes Kaboul

    Younes Kaboul

Was as impressive as ever at the heart of defence and rarely looked troubled in the first half. A knee problem forced the Frenchman off in the second-haf but it was a good performance til the 75th minute.

  • William Gallas

    William Gallas

Had early difficulty with Pogrebnyak but grew into the game and managed to get the better of the Russian in the first half. Was switched to right-back after Walker went off and looked comfortable there, preventing Frei from being as dangerous as he was in the first-half.

  • Kyle Walker

    Kyle Walker

Played a lovely incisive pass through to Lennon to create the club's best chance of the first half aside from the goal. Had a tricky job with the lively Kerim Frei and was beaten by the winger once in the opening half hour. Banged a decent effort from range towards half-time but saw it just sail over. Took an awkward fall and though he emerged for the second-half, he was badly limping and was replaced by Nelsen

  • Gareth Bale

    Gareth Bale

Started at left-back but was often found in his familiar left-wing position zipping crosses into the box. Almost found Adebayor with a teasing ball on 20 minutes but Schwarzer just got there. Put in a lot of running in the second-half but was dutiful enough to ensure he didn't leave his flank exposed to Duff.

  • Aaron Lennon

Aaron Lennon Top of the Match

Started furiously on the right giving Riise real problems and delivering a number of teasing crosses. Stood a great ball up for Sandro in the second-half as well as one for Van der Vaart. He worked well with Walker until he was subbed. His good work was not done, and his run and cross-shot fell to Defoe for the second goal.

  • Rafael van der Vaart

    Rafael van der Vaart

Showed his ingenuity playing a neat one-two with Adebayor to get the assist on the opener. Had a chance with a header that he just mistimed on 15 minutes. On the half-hour he volleyed inches wide from inside the box where he perhaps could have done better. Wasn't at his best and was taken off for Jermain Defoe on the hour mark.

  • Luka Modric

    Luka Modric

Started out wide on the left in a five man midfield and worked well with Bale rotating the all-out attacking duties. Had an early shot that was deflected wide but it was an lower profile first half from the Croatian. Kept things ticking along all game and was given a rough time over the course of the game. Moved more central after Defoe came on as he looked to dictate the play

  • Jake Livermore

    3.50

    Jake Livermore

A utility man, but turning into a real asset in his first full year in the first team. His bullish style helped Spurs win the early midfield battle. He was diligent in his work and never found out of position alongside the rabid Sandro. They can be a frightening physical presence when played together.

  • Sandro

    Sandro

Incessantly chased Dembele in midfield. Found it difficult to nick the ball off the tricky Belgian but didn't give him a moment's peace. Put in his usual amount of running and was unlucky not to score with a glanced header.

  • Emmanuel Adebayor

    Emmanuel Adebayor

Played a good one-two with Van der Vaart and finished low and well for the opener. Struggled at times in the air against Hangeland but worked much better against Hughes in the second half.

On for Walker just after half-time and was nice and solid alongside Kaboul, until he went off.

  • Adam Smith

    Adam Smith

Came on for the injured Kaboul with 15 minutes to go and had two songs chanted at him in that time.

  • Jermain Defoe

    Jermain Defoe

Came on for Van der Vaart after 60 minutes and scored Tottenham's second two minutes later. Showed his characteristic predatory instincts, pouncing onto the loose ball and poking past Schwarzer to double the Spurs lead. Followed it up by playing a bit deeper than Adebayor and linking exceptionally with the midfield. Did smash a 20-yarder just over.

  • Mark Schwarzer

    3.00

    Mark Schwarzer

Could do little with the goal as Adebayor found himself in far too much space to slot past him. He did make a good save from Bale on the stroke of half-time as well as leaping above some Tottenham pressure to palm a high-cross to safety.

  • Stephen Kelly

    Stephen Kelly

Looked solid on his return to White Hart Lane at full-back, despite the double threat of Modric and Bale. Was helped well by Duff and even pressed himself forward late on. Played a nice pass to Duff for Fulham's best chance.

  • John Arne Riise

    John Arne Riise

Struggled initially with Lennon's pace but gradually forced the winger back as he and Frei came into the game. Went on a surging run from his own half to the edge of the box before turning onto his favoured left-foot to fire the first shot on goal for Fulham. Looked to have done enough but was possibly a little too far off Lennon as he blocked his shot. Though he blocked it, the ball deflected into the path of Defoe.

  • Brede Hangeland

    3.00

    Brede Hangeland

Booked for a poor challenge on Adebayor but dominated the striker aerially. Could do little about the second goal as Riise's block swept the ball across the box and away from him.

  • Aaron Hughes

    0
    3.00

    Aaron Hughes

Operated alongside Hangeland and was solid enough in the first half. However this changed in the second period as Adebayor moved to his side and he found himself dominated in the air by the Togolese striker. That said, he didn't directly cause any leaks in the Fulham defence.

  • Danny Murphy

    3.00

    Danny Murphy

With Diarra alongside him, Murphy has the freedom to play his natural play-making game. He looked to the left-wing primarily in the first period, using Riise and Frei as his main outlet. Was taken off late in the game to a generous ovation from the home fans.

  • Damien Duff
    1
    0
    3.00

    Damien Duff

Worked hard on the right wing against Bale and Modric but that left him with little chance to display his attacking threat. When he did get forward he often found Sandro or Bale had tracked him well. Was helped by Kelly late on and hit the post with a decent right-footed strike.

  • Mahamadou Diarra
    3
    0
    3.50

    Mahamadou Diarra

Shared a joke with Adebayor as he left the pitch at half-time and seems equally popular in amongst his Fulham side. The Malian has been industrious in his work and starved Sandro and Livermore of time on the ball.

  • Kerim Frei
    1
    0
    3.00

    Kerim Frei

Looked lively throughout on the left and troubled Walker at times. Had one moment where he beat Walker, reached the byline and fired a decent cross into the Spurs box. Faded a little once Walker went off, when in fact it could have been his best chance to get at Spurs.

  • Moussa Dembele
    2
    0
    3.50

    Moussa Dembele

Has a fantastic ability to glide past players but occasionally found the incessant pressure of Sandro too much to handle. Though he looked to keep things ticking over, he offered two of Fulham's best chances, fizzing one shot just wide and one that had Freidel leaping to his left and parrying. This was a tidy and confident display by a player I believe could be on the move in the summer. Tested Friedel again late on with a piledriver that was just tipped over.

  • Pavel Pogrebnyak

Pavel Pogrebnyak Flop of the Match

Played excellently with his back to goal and gave Gallas a tough time early on. However as the game went on, the Russian striker found possession hard to come by as Gallas and Kaboul limited his options. On top of that, he didn't find a single goalscoring chance for all his running.

    Pajtim Kasami

Came on for Murphy and looked neat and tidy in the midfield.
