Old Trafford — Manchester
Referee:‬ P. Dowd‎
Attendance:‬ 75183‎
78′ (PG) Dimitar Berbatov
And thats the game. Man United continues its impressive form since crashing out of the Champions League. Berbatov has definitely shown that he is worth being on the first team. It will be interesting to see if he gets his wish.
90′ +2
Speculative effort from Antonio Alcaraz goes flying past Lindegaard's post, never looked close to improving his record of one goal in 47 appearances for the Latics
Daron Gibson with a decent effort from the edge of the area, Al Habsi gets down well to parry the ball away, just out of the reach of Dimitar Berbatov
United is toying with the Wigan back line, passing the ball for fun as it sees this game out. The three points have never been in doubt for Sir Alex's men
The Latics have mustered just 30% possession in the second half, this really has been an up-hill battle for Roberto Martinez's men
Anders Lindegaard has barely had a touch today! The goalkeeper has conceded no goals in his last two games, and seen his team score ten! And there's still ten minutes to go!
Substitution Victor Moses Hugo Rodallega
Assist Ji-Sung Park
Penalty Goal Dimitar Berbatov
GOAL!!! Berbatov completes his hat trick stutter stepping and tapping the goal in the right hand side for the penalty attempt.
Penalty!!!! Park gets fouled just inside the box!
Assist Michael Carrick
Goal Antonio Valencia
GOAL!!! Valencia scores against his old club!!!!! Evans gives him the ball outside of the box and the Ecuador international smashes the ball towards the left hand side of Wigan's goal.
Wayne Rooney tries his luck from range, he strikes the ball well but it fires wide of Al Habsi's post. He'll be hoping to get his name on the score sheet by the end of the game, and maintain his record of scoring in each of his last three games.
Substitution Jordi Gómez James McArthur
Antonio Valencia is proving a constant thorn in Wigan's side, the right back is running from deep, untracked by the Latics midfielders.
Franco Di Santo really should have notched his fifth goal of the season! Young defender Fryers got himself in a tangle and ended up on the ground, allowing Di Santo a free shot on goal, but the Argentinian scuffs his effort into the ground.
Substitution Nani Federico Macheda
Substitution Ryan Giggs Wayne Rooney
And that's the Welshman's last involvement in the game as he's replaced by top scorer Wayne Rooney. The England man enters the pitch to a rousing reception from his adoring fans.
Yellow Card Ryan Giggs
Ryan Giggs receives a yellow card for a cynical pull back on Jordi Gomez
Assist Antonio Valencia
Goal Dimitar Berbatov
GOAL!!!! Berbatov doubles his tally. Valencia finds the Bulgarian just inside the box, passing directly to his feet. The towering striker turned around and fired in his shot.
Chance for Wigan from a free kick, as Evra thunders into the back of Victor Moses and sends the forward crashing to the ground.
Mistake earlier. Evra is still in. He appears to be playing at center back after Jonny Evans was replaced. Sir Alex perhaps just protecting Jonny Evans who was on a yellow card, the last thing United need is further selection dilemmas at in defense.
United has had 12 shots, three on goal as opposed to Wigan's 5 shots, two on goal.
Park almost gets two!!! Al Habsi spills the save on the South Korean's header and Park pounces on the rebound but it goes wide.
Substitution Mohamed Diame Franco Di Santo
Substitution Jonny Evans Ezekiel Fryers
Red Devils kick off!!! Fryers comes on for Evra.

Phil Dowd blows for Half time. One way traffic at Old Trafford so far, Martinez has his work cut out if his side are to take anything from this game, 2-0 United
45′ +1
Lindegaard finally makes a save, Diame strikes from range, he struck the ball well, but it was straight at the goalkeeper.
United in full control of the game now, two minutes of added time to be played
Assist Darron Gibson
Goal Dimitar Berbatov
GOAL!!!! Berbatov scores as he gets a cross from Gibson inside the box and scores. Way too easy from Wigan as it should have closed down Gibson in the midfield.
Red Card Conor Sammon
RED CARD!!! A very controversial decision against Wigan's Sammon, who's rested elbow shoved a United a player as both were trying to win a header. There wasn't anything malicious in the replay.
Wigan is just beginning to assert itself on the game now. With Evra pulling in to help out Michael Carrick, Ronnie Stam is definitely the best outlet for Wigan, he's had the beating of Park all afternoon.
Wigan has never scored in open-play at Old Trafford, its only goal there coming from the penalty spot, that record will need to change if it is going to head back to Lancashire with anything from the game
Another terrific ball from Ronnie Stam, whipping his cross between defenders and goalkeeper, but neither Moses nor Sammon took the gamble, or it surely would have been 1-1.
Nani's shot doesn't have the required curl and just sails past Wigan's goal.
Free-kick now for United in a similar position to Wigan a few minutes ago, Nani looking most likely to take the set piece.
Chance for Wigan as it is awarded a free-kick, 25 yards from goal, relatively central. Jordi Gomez steps up but fires his effort disappointingly in to the wall
Yellow Card Jonny Evans
The United wide men, Nani and Park, have made a blistering start to the game, that's been the difference so far, Wigan is unable to compete with them in the wide areas.
Yellow Card David Jones
Ali Al Habsi collects the ball and looks to distribute it early, but there's no Wigan players available, all ten outfield players back defending. You begin to get the impression this is already a case of damaged limitation for the Latics
Conor Sammon beginning to look increasingly isolated against the United defense, starting to drop deep in frustration, but in doing so, Wigan loses its out-ball
Finally some pressure from Wigan, and they should be level! Ronnie Stam with time to produce a great cross to the back post, where Conor Sammon, unmarked, seemed to pull his head away from the cross with the goal gaping!
Man U has dominated possession, holding the ball for 66 percent of the time.
Man U continues its dominance on Wigan. The all-time score between both sides is 42-4 in the Red Devils favor.
Assist Patrice Evra
Goal Ji-Sung Park
GOAL!!!! Evra gets into close to the left side of the box and launches a pinpoint low cross to Park Ji-Sung who bangs in the shot on the upright side of the goal.
Early possession for United, but the Wigan team clearly looking to isolate the out-of-position of Carrick and Valencia, asserting good pressure.
Wigan has been making a effort to retain possession. Martinez's men are moving the ball around well.
Kick Off!!! Game starts with the Red Devils having possession.
United comes in to the game on the back of four consecutive league wins. The club should be cautious however, of a Wigan team which has been beaten just once in its previous five games,
Both teams start with their respective top scorers on the bench, with Wayne Rooney and Franco Di Santo both missing out.
Some big surprises sprung by Sir Alex Ferguson. Valencia and Carrick both start in defense for the Red Devils. Lindegaard retains his place in goal and Darron Gibson is handed his first league start of the season. Roberto Martinez names the same starting XI that picked up a potentially vital point at home to Liverpool.
