And thats the game. Stoke continues its stellar start to the season upsetting Liverpool. While there might be an argument that the refs favored the hosts, in the end Stoke's defense never allowed the club's expensive attack to get opportunities. If you don't have clear cut chances, it is very hard to win.
Yellow Card Luis Suárez
Substitution Martin Skrtel Glen Johnson
Substitution Rory Delap W. Palacios
Crouch's lack of aerial ability is displayed just there. He beats his opponent naturally because of his height but he can't his head on a beautifully executed cross.
Begovic is on FIRE!!! Downing had a header in front of goal but the keeper makes look it easy jumping on the ball near the post.
Let's see if Carroll can get back to his Newcastle form where he was compared to a young Alan Shearer.
Substitution Matthew Etherington Kenwyne Jones
Substitution Jordan Henderson Craig Bellamy
Substitution Dirk Kuyt Andy Carroll
Kenwyne Jones is coming on now as well.
Looks like Daglish is taking my advice as Henderson and Kuyt are coming for Carroll and Bellamy.
Substitution Robert Huth Andy Wilkinson
WOW!!! Asmir Begovic made four saves on a crazy sequence of events as Henderson had a one on one that was an initally blocked, then his rebound got blocked, then Adam's rebound got blocked by Stoke's defenders and then Begovic blocked Henderson's third shot. CRAZY!!!
It is looking very likely that Liverpool might have to play just for the draw as Stoke's defense looks very difficult to crack.
Saurez dribbles past two defenders but is stopped immediately once he gets in the box. His frustration is very evident.
Lucas takes a shot but misses. I have to ask King Kenny, when are the attacking options coming on? You have Carroll and Bellamy on the bench, use one or maybe even both....
Stoke's defense continues to be well composed. Liverpool had five players in the box but Stoke had at least eight players to match that.
Liverpool has been aggressive to start but Stoke keeps on finding ways to stay in front of its attack.
Second half begins and Stoke has the ball.
Feel free to ask questions during halftime @sportslab.
The first half ends and Liverpool should feel hard done as its done enough to score at least twice and the Carragher penalty could be seen as unfair. Can the Reds regroup in the second half?
Suarez misses the shot of the game as Begovic split catch lands into his feet and the shot goes wide....
Lucas charges into the goalkeeper and he's lucky he didn't receive a straight red card. I said early this was going to be a physical game.
A clever set of one and twos between Saurez and Downing goes begging as Suarez believes Upson should have been called for a penalty as his hand touched the ball and he thought the defender also showed his cleats. Saurez's yelling at the ref earns him a yellow card.
Another close chance for Liverpool. Downing crosses into the head of Bellamy and the shot bounces on the ground and goes out of bounds.
Downing takes a shot that might have been overly ambitious from outside of the box.
Sorry for the delay, been having some tech issues. Stoke's defense has been nothing short of incredible today. Between Begovic's superb goalkeeping and the centerbacks that are swarming each LFC attacker, there hasn't much Daglish's players can do.
Attempt sails just outside the goal post.
Tough Stoke challenge on Saurez as it appears Delap kicked into his ankle. Adam gets another free kick.
Its yet another Liverpool corner. Here comes our left footer Adam to take
Liverpool hasn't been able to execute in the final third today. It has had great midfield play but the final decisions up top haven't been the best.
Looking at that play again, looks like Srktel might have been fouled after the shot in the box.
Srktel had a chance there but he showed why he plays in the back as he clearly didn't aim that shot.
If I had to compare Stoke to American sports team, it would be definitely akin to the Detroit Pistons under Larry Brown.
With the one goal lead, Stoke is operating a lot more defensively now. Pulis' men are content to get a 1-0 result if necessary.
Suarez almost equalizes!!!! The Uruguayan pounces on a rebound but Shawcross is there to intercept.
Questionable call. While Carragher pushed down the player, it was definitely a 50-50 call.
Penalty Goal Jonathan Walters
GOAL from Walters!!!!! Penalty converted.
PENALTY for STOKE!!!!! Carragher pushed down Walters in the box.
Game continues to have a grinding out pace to it.
Liverpool again is continuing to be aggressive on offense. Stoke appears a bit jittery in the back.
Saurez almost gets one in as Adam's corner finds the forward but he can't get a good touch on the ball in front of goal.
It is easy to see why Stoke enjoys so much success at the Britannia stadium. The club's fans are loud and boisterous.
Stoke kick off and the game begins!!!
Was a handball shout from that throw in. Kuyt’s flick just caught Delap’s trailing arm. Would have been very harsh if given
Stoke just struggling to get their passes in at the minute. No surprise their main threats so far have been direct balls into the Liverpool box
Carragher leaves the field to get a cut attended to on his head. Typical Carra barking instructions at the boys on the pitch before going off
The announcement has excited the fans who give the England striker a loud ovation
Players are on the field. In a shock, Crouch starts over Jones. The CONCACAF striker has been pretty good for Stoke over the past year and a half.
Players are waiting in the tunnel.
Liverpool hasn't won at Stoke since its arrival in the Premiership.
