Swansea City and Sunderland played out to a stalemate at Swansea's Liberty Stadium on Saturday afternoon as both sides picked up their second point of the season. However, both teams spurned numerous chances in front of goal and will be left wondering what might have been

Sunderland was the better side early on, as John O'Shea hit the bar off a corner kick. Swansea goalkeeper Michel Vorm was in excellent form once more and denied Asamoah Gyan twice to keep things level early on.

Brendan Rodgers’ side then rallied after a good Sunderland start and could have gone ahead but Scott Sinclair’s 25 yard effort hit the crossbar after he had cut in from the left and rifled a right-footed shot at goal.

The chance was a sign of things to come for Swansea, but the team could not turn its momentum into goals. Danny Graham had a shot bocked and then missed a free header in the 40th minute that could've given Swansea a real boost going into halftime.

The Black Cats could have taken the lead minutes after the restart following a good counter attack involving Sessegnon and Jack Colback but Gyan couldn't finish things off, letting Swansea off the hook once more.

Swansea began to grow into the half and Graham continued to have most of the chances, but could not put them away thanks to some solid goalkeeping from Simon Mignolet. Sunderland, meanwhile was reduced to playing on the counterattack and this tactic nearly yielded dividends thanks to Gyan's pace, but the Ghanaian couldn't put the finishing touch on any moves.

Both sides were trying to find a winner to secure their first victories of the season but they were frustrated by resolute defending as the game looked destined for a stalemate. Vorm continued to hold steady in the Swansea goal, but his side could not break Sunderland down and find its first Premier League win.
