Stoke City 0-0 Chelsea: Lampard controversially denied penalty as determined Potters dampen Villas-Boas party

A fantastic second-half performance from Asmir Begovic ensured a share of the spoils for Pulis' men, as a lively Torres and Co. couldn't find a way past the impressive Bosnian.

It was perhaps not quite the start Andre Villas-Boas would have liked to his Chelsea managerial career.

The Blues' new coach would have to settle for a 0-0 draw in a tightly contested match with Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Sunday.

An inspirational performance from goalkeeper Asmir Begovic kept the Potters in the match with some fantastic saves thwarting the Blues three pronged attack – especially in the second half.

Chelsea had a handful of penalty appeals turned down. Fernando Torres was brought down on the side of the box early in the second half and Frank Lampard was also taken down with no call.

Perhaps a slight surprise for the Blues was the inclusion of Torres, who suffered concussion midweek after playing for Spain, but Villas-Boas felt that the former Liverpool man was still capable of giving the hosts a torrid time.

Jonathan Woodgate, plagued by injuries over the last few years, made his debut in defense for the Potters and produced a solid display alongside Robert Huth at the back.
