Women's World Cup: Sweden edge out North Korea
The Scandinavians stayed in the race for top spot in Group C, which also includes the quarterfinal-bound Americans.
By Gary Niblock
The Nordic side created the lion's share of the chances before the break but with just two shots on target combined, the finishing would have to be better in the second-half in order to force a breakthrough.
Lisa Dahlkvist proved to be the hero for the Swedes with the only goal of the game in the 64th minute. She capped an impressive performance by netting from close range after being set up by Therese Sjogran.
The North Koreans to their credit produced a late surge as they went in search of an equalizer but despite a few close calls, the Swedes hung on for the three points.
The win came at a price, as player of the match Caroline Seger picked up a second booking of the tournament. This means she will be suspended for the final group match against the United States.
