Dallas ran out comfortable winners against Portland on Saturday night.
Dallas got its first two goals off of set plays as first Loyd and then John headed home past Troy Perkins.
For Lyod it was his first career goal while John scored for only the second time this year, giving Dallas an offensive spark that has been lacking at times this season.
With two goals in before the halftime whistle, all Dallas had to do was try and see the match out, but Jackson Goncalves was not content with the lead and continued to torture Portland with his attacking runs.
In the 58th minute Brek Shea benefited from one such run, tapping home his seventh goal of the season and effectively putting the match out of reach.
But Dallas wasn't done just yet, and neither was Jackson, who forced a save from Perkins which rebounded to Luna for the fourth and final goal of the night for the home team.
The offensive explosion for Dallas put the team in prime position to claim the top spot in the west after Los Angeles could only manage a draw on Saturday. Dallas now sits only four points back with two matches in hand on the Galaxy.
Portland and Dallas will both be at home next weekend with the Hoops hosting Columbus and Portland returning to Oregon to host Sporting Kansas City.
