El Salvador poured misery on Cuba as it finished its Gold Cup Group A campaign with a 6-1 victory. Rodolfo Zelaya led the way for the Cuscatlecos, scoring and assisting two goals each.
It took just 13 minutes for Zelaya to open the scoring as he finished from William Romero's assist. The pair switched roles as Romero put in the second goal after 29 miniutes, and El Salvador entered halftime with a commanding lead.
After the interval, Mark Blanco (69') and Zelaya (71') scored quickfire goals; Cuba's only answer was an 83rd-minute strike by Yenier Molina to make the score 4-1. Jose Alvarez restored Cuba's four-goal lead moments later, and Eliseo Quintanilla added a sixth at the death to round off a comprehensive win.
In spite of their emphatic result, El Salvador finish third in Group A, level on points with Costa Rica, but behind on goal difference. Cuba finish fourth, having lost all three of its matches.
