Chivas 3-0 America: Erick Torres the hero in El Súper Clásico
It has lost a little bit of its luster, but no one told Chivas that about El Súper Clásico. Erick Torres and a brace from Marco Fabian paved the way to a 3-0 drubbing.

Chivas beat America 3-0 at the Omnilife Stadium during the ‘Clasico’ Sunday afternoon.
With the theme of ‘Hagamos de la paz un Clasico,’- ‘Let’s make peace a classic’- a part of the game, the teams started the game by making a large peace sign on the field.
A goal from Erick ‘Cubo’ Torres and two from Marco Fabian gave Chivas the victory at home.
First Half
Changes quickly hit Chivas in the opening moments of the game. Jonny Magallon left the field in the fifth minute of the game with an injury. Miguel Ponce entered for the defender.
Erick ‘Cubo’ Torres had an opportunity in the eighth minute of the game. Receiving the ball from the right side of the field, Torres’ shot flew over the crossbar.
America’s response came in the 13th minute with Daniel Montenegro, who took a shot from outside of the box, but Montenegro’s shot went wide of goal.
Again, America had an opportunity in the 14th minute. Vicente Sanchez made his way to Chivas’ area and beat Hector Reynoso on a one on one. After leaving the defender behind, Sanchez took his shot, but the ball went over the crossbar.
Torres scored for Chivas in the 27th minute. Xavier Baez started a run on the right, he then crossed in for Torres, who was waiting on the penalty spot. Torres headed the ball and it went past Guillermo Ochoa.
It seemed like America had equalized in the 31st minute. Angel Reyna got the ball on the bounce and slotted it past Luis Michel. However, Reyna was deemed offside and the goal was not given.
Diego Cervantes escaped sanctioning in the 39th minute after hitting Torres’ face.
A brief altercation broke out in the 43rd minute. Aquivaldo Mosquera had put a hand on Torres’ face, and Torres went down. Players began to push and shove, but nothing major came out of incident.
America had an opportunity in the 45th minute. Reyna left the Chivas defenders behind and then sent in a tight shot. Michel made it off his line and got a hand on the ball to knock it out of its path and sent it just wide of goal.
Second Half
Second half substitute Marco Fabian attempted to surprise Ochoa in the 53rd minute. The America goalkeeper held on the ball and denied a goal.
Reyna tried to take a shot from outside the box, but it flew over the goal in the 67th minute.
Chivas doubled its lead in the 72nd minute. Fabian passed to Torres, who held on and protected the ball on the edge of the box, to begin the play. Torres then passed back to Fabian for the Chivas player to shoot slot past Ochoa for the 2-0 lead.
Fabian scored his second and Chivas’ third in the 79th minute. Fabian got the ball in the midfield and passed to Omar Arellano. Arellano crossed the ball from the left toward the opposite post, and Fabian arrived without any marking to head the ball in for the third goal.
