Fans' Rating Chivas USA 1-4 Chicago Fire: Brian McBride Scores In Farewell Game

It was an emotional night at the Home Depot Center, as Brian McBride and C.J. Brown played their last professional games. McBride ended his MLS career on a high note, scoring a goal as the Chicago Fire earned a quality victory over host Chivas USA.
This game was also Chivas USA captain Jonathan Bornstein last game with the Goats. He is headed down to Mexico to play for Tigres in January.
The 4-1 Fire win was the final game of the season for both teams; neither earned a spot in the playoffs.
First Half
Chivas USA outplayed Chicago Fire in the first 15 minutes of the game with some positive possession. The early yellow card picked up by Jorge Flores was an indicator of how intense both teams were going to play.
The first major play of the night came from Justin Braun. The Chivas USA striker had possession of the ball inside the box, swiftly lost C.J. Brown, and took a shot on goal but Sean Johnson pulled off the save.
Then in the 14th minute Jesus Padilla sent a cross to the middle of the box which found Rodolfo Espinoza, but he volleyed it over the goal.
Towards the end of the first half Chicago started to respond to the pressure. They began to look for more possession, which paid off in the 40th minute. Freddie Ljungberg fed the ball to Brian McBride, who was right in front of the goal. The veteran scored an incredible back heel goal, the 80th in his MLS career.
In the 42nd minute it looked as though the Goats were about to equalize when Justin Braun made his way to post, just as he was going to kick the ball in he was knocked down by Wilman Conde. He waited for the ref to call something and was understandably upset as the ref brushed his appeals aside.
In injury time justice was served when Conde was booked for a hard tackle.
Second Half
The second half started off with a bang. Both teams were solely playing for pride. Two minutes in Ljungberg connected with Marco Pappa’s cross and scored with precision.
In the 50th minute McBride ended his illustrious MLS career. He had been limping since he scored the goal; he was replaced by Caleen Carr.
Then in the 57th minute Giancarlo Maldonado scored for the Goats. Sal Zisso fed the ball to Maldonado, who headed it home from close range.
Then a minute after celebrating his goal Maldonado got in a shoving match with Conde. Maldonado received a yellow card for his participation.
The intensity of the game was palpable. In the 67th minute Carr extended their lead 3-1 after a defensive breakdown by the Goats. Carr gently kicked the ball into an empty net. It was definitely not Zack Thornton's best game.
The second shoving match of the night started in the 70th minute when Espinoza took Ljungberg down from behind. The two players had been having friction all night. Both players received yellow cards.
There was not very much soccer going on for the next 15 minutes. Both teams were more focused on retaliation than scoring goals.
In the 85th minute Jonathan Bornstein ended his five years with the Goats. He was subbed out for Bryan de la Fuente, who made his MLS debut.
Then in stoppage time Baggio Husidic, who had just entered the pitch, scored a header goal on a Thornton rebound.
