And it's all over. FC Dallas now has the longest single season unbeaten record and they thoroughly deserve it after nearly winning the game while playing a man down. The Red Bulls players will be disappointed, but Hans Backe has to be happy with a point on the road and a mostly impressive night from Mehdi Ballouchy.
Yellow Card Mehdi Ballouchy
Rafa Marquez goes down just outside the box, but the referee waives it off sending FC Dallas on the break. Mehdi Ballouchy is forced to take down Atiba Harris and earn himself a late yellow card.
Off a short corner, Rafa Marquez tries a cross but its deflected towards the back post, but Dario Sala gets up and punches it clear.
Sala will continue as the Red Bulls keep pushing.
FC Dallas gets caught on the break after the corner, forcing McCarty to take down Richards. Marquez sends in the free kick to substitute Salou Ibrahim who heads it towards goal. Just as Dario Sala was coming out to clear, Chris Albright tried a scissor kick and caught Sala perhaps forcing an FC Dallas field player into the goal.
Substitution Dane Richards Ibrahim Salou
Yellow Card Marvin Chávez
And just like that another play comes through Dax McCarty to David Ferreira down the right wing. Ferreira puts some moves on Roy Miller before he finds Atiba Harris trailing the play. Harris blasted it at goal, but Coundoul made a great save putting the ball out for a corner.
The way this game has gone FC Dallas will probably get at least one more chance to get a win, and if not they definitely deserve a draw.
Own Goal Jair Benítez
Finally the Red Bulls patience and pressure pays off as Ballouchy finds Joel Lindpere out on the left wing. The Estonia fired in a hard low cross that Angel just misses and Jair Benitez heads into his own goal.
FC Dallas looks calm whenever they get the ball exploiting the space when they should and taking the ball into the corner when they are outnumbered.
Juan Pablo Angel nearly pulls the Red Bulls equal with a great leap to get on the end of a cross from Chris Albright, but his downward header bounces off Jair Benitez.
Substitution M. Rodríguez Marvin Chávez
Goal Eric Alexander
All the patient build up and its Rafa Marquez who turns it over in midfield before Eric Alexander breaks between three defenders and slots a shot past Bouna Coundoul on the near post.
Substitution Tony Tchani Juan Pablo Angel
With Juan Pablo Angel coming into the game for Tony Tchani, Mehdi Ballouchy will slide back into the center midfield alongside Marquez. It'll be interesting to see how this line up works as it might be the first choice XI for Hans Backe.
The Red Bulls keep probing around the outside of the Dallas box with the occasional foray into the box. Henry finds some space inside the box and cuts it back to Lindpere, but his shot flies up and over the bar.
Again its FC Dallas with the better chances as Eric Alexander finds a lot of space down the right wing before he cuts back and curls a left-footed shot past Coundoul and off the upright.
The Red Bulls have all the possession in the early going of the second half, but the FC Dallas defense is playing a tight, structured line.
Despite the red card to Brek Shea, FC Dallas still looks dangerous on the counter. If they can keep it together at the back they might still get a point out of this game and maybe sneak a win.
Controversy after the goal. Just as Kevin Hartman put his instep to the ball to collect it and send it back up field, Thierry Henry came through and kicked the ball sending Hartman to the ground clutching his knee.
Substitution Kevin Hartman Dario Sala
Goal Mehdi Ballouchy
Yellow Card Thierry Henry
Joel Lindpere played a give-and-go with Roy Miller on the left wing sending the Estonian to the endline where he fired in a low cross across goal to Mehdi Ballouchy who had the easiest of finishes to score on his debut.
Despite being down a man FC Dallas looks good. After a cleared free kick, Atiba Harris nearly takes the second ball past Ream, but the rookie manages to clear before Harris can get his shot off. Dallas gets two more corners but can't making anything out of it.
Yellow Card Roy Miller
The Red Bulls continue to push as Marquez sends in Dane Richards, but Kevin Hartman comes out strong to collect the ball. Unfortunately, Hartman sent Jair Benitez flying through the air nearly injuring his own defender.
And now the Red Bulls have the rest of the game to try and wear down Dallas. Joel Lindpere is finding more space down the left and Ballouchy just fired off a shot that deflected out off Thierry Henry.
Red Card Brek Shea
Don't really know what Brek Shea was thinking there. He flew in with two legs on Chris Albright when the Red Bulls right back was moving slowly down the right wing. Straight Red.
Substitution Daniel Hernández Dax McCarty
Injury Daniel Hernández
Great FC Dallas move as Heath Pearce gets into the attack sending in a nice cross over the top to the back post. Eric Alexander rose highest and headed it back across goal to Milton Rodriguez who calmly headed into the back of the net.
Goal M. Rodríguez
Brek Shea continues to be the danger man for FC Dallas as Goncalves finds the young American winger on a quick restart, but Carlos Mendes recovers in time to allow Coundoul to collect the ball.
The first fifteen minutes have been wide open as both teams are using their speed to open up the defense. Case in point, Thierry Henry just took a ball on the fly and used some nice skill to keep it away from the FC Dallas defenders before lobbing in a poor effort from the top of the box.
Thierry Henry making some magic with a nice chipped cross from the left side to Dane Richards at the back the post. Richards volleys it down into the ground sending the ball into the far corner, but Eric Alexander heads it off the line.
Brek Shea breaks through all alone, but Bouna Coundoul got out quickly and clears the ball at the top of the box.
Dane Richards is looking very dangerous early. First, he took a pass from Ballouchy and burned down the right wing, beating Jair Benitez, before he forced a good save out of Kevin Hartman at his near post. Within a minute, the little Jamaican was past Benitez again, but his close range shot sailed over the bar.
Brek Shea getting involved early earning a corner, but FC Dallas can't make the Red Bulls pay after Bouna Coundoul missed his attempted clearance.
And we're off. Mehdi Ballouchy is making his Red Bulls debut wearing the number 10. No pressure. And immediately Ballouchy sends in a cross from the left and nearly finds Dane Richards.
