Francesco Totti was once again the hero for Roma as he got on the score-sheet twice to drag his team to a 2-2 draw against Fiorentina.
Adrian Mutu opened the scoring with a precise finish midway through the first half for the hosts, only to see Totti draw the game level from the spot shortly after.
Alessandro Gamberini headed the Viola in front ten minutes before the break, but Totti once again popped up with the equaliser in the second period to earn a point for his team.
Fiorentina were the brighter of the two sides early in the game and looked determined to get a quick opener. Valon Behrami in particular was very active for the Viola and he nearly created a goal as early as the as the second minute when his powerful cross met the head of Alberto Gilardino inside the box, but the former Milan striker's finish flew over the bar.
The goal however finally arrived eight minutes later, when Mutu raced past Juan and finished superbly, low into the corner.
In the 26th minute, however, Roma got the chance to draw the game level from the spot after John Arne Riise was brought down in the box by Gianluca Comotto. Totti stepped up and sent Artur Boruc the wrong way, netting his 200th goal in Serie A in the process.
Fiorentina went on the attack again, leaving themselves vulnerable on the counter and nearly paid dearly in the 33th minute when Jeremy Menez had a decent effort saved by Boruc.
The Viola managed to take the lead again, however, in the 35th minute when Gamberini finished past Doni from inside the box after being picked out by Mutu.
Fiorentina continued to impress after the break and nearly made it three five minutes into the second period when Vargas had a thunderous volley from ten yards out rattle the crossbar.
Completely against the run of play, however, the Lupi drew the game level, as Totti was once again the hero for Roma, calmly controlling a Riise cross on the right side of the box before sending a majestic finish into the far corner, to complete an impressive brace.
Neither team dominated the remaining minutes, but it was Fiorentina who went closer to edging the game through Vargas and Gilardino, but luck just was not on their side.
The Lupi are sixth in the standings after the result, with 50 points, while the Viola are ninth with 41 points. Fiorentina's next league game is a visit to Cesena on the 3rd April, while Roma host Juventus on the same day.
