Bologna 3-1 Lazio: Felsinei Come Back From Behind To Earn Three Points

Bologna picked up three vital points in their quest for consolidation as they disposed of Lazio at the Renato Dall'Ara. Sergio Floccari early in the game, but Bologna managed to fight back and take the lead before half-time through Gaston Ramirez and Marco Di Vaio. Andre Dias was sent off for visitors in the second half and Di Vaio completed his brace right before the final whistle to pile more misery on the Aquile.

Bologna were the more active team early in the game, but were soon pegged back by Lazio as Floccari opened the scoring as early as the fifth minute. The striker played a wonderful one-two with Hernanes and was released by the Brazilian on the left side of the box and finished coolly past Emiliano Viviano.

The Felsinei continued to attack and looked like scoring soon as the Aquile's defence was slowly buckling under the pressure. This gave Lazio much space to operate with on the break and goalscorer Floccari was presented with an excellent chance in the 24th minute when he headed a Christian Brocchi cross at goal, but Viviano made a great reflex save.

The hosts finally got the goal they deserved in the 36th minute when Albin Ekdal found Ramirez with a wonderful through-ball, the Uruguayan raced past Andre Dias and slotted past his compatriot Fernando Muslera to draw the game level.

Things get from bad to worse for Edoardo Reja's men just three minutes later when Di Vaio gave Bologna the lead. Francesco Della Rocca released the ex-Juventus man on the left, and the striker went by three players before slotting in the near corner with Muslera rooted to his spot.

Lazio tried to get back into the game before half-time and they came closest to achieving that in the 47th minute of the first half when Floccari released substitute Mauro Zarate with a marvellous through ball, but the Argentinian's finish from near the penalty spot was blocked superbly by Viviano.

This proved to be the final moment of interest for the first half as the Felsinei entered the break with a one-goal lead.

Lazio continued to push forward in search of an equaliser, but were struggling to break down a resolute Bologna defence. Stefano Mauri tried his luck with an overhead kick in the 57th minute, but his finish flew over the bar.

The emotions on the pitch reached boiling point in the 84th minute when Dias and Federico Casarini collided and in a subsequent gathering of players from both sides Dias and Henry Gimenez were sent off.

Bologna delivered a killing blow in the 90th minute when Di Vaio pounced on a badly cleared ball from Giuseppe Biava and finished off left post and into the net.

There were more ugly scenes on the pitch after the final whistle as another argument occurred, this time between Di Vaio and Zarate. Both sets of players had to pull them apart, which put a fitting end to a game that will surely bring consequences.

Following today's result Bologna are ninth in the standings, while Lazio sit in fourth place. The Felsinei's next league game is at home agaisnt Roma on the 30th January, while the Aquile host Fiorentina a day earlier.
