    Simon Mignolet

Couldn't do anything with the first two goals but was beaten too easily at near post for the third.

  • Nedum Onuoha

    Nedum Onuoha

Looked uneasy when challenging in the air, his pace helped him with Thomas who he seemed to cope with quite well in the first half but as the game wore on he started to struggle.

  • John Mensah

    2.50

    John Mensah

His injury problems again caught up with him, however he did look shaky in his time on the field and allowed West Brom an early opportunity.

  • Michael Turner

    2.50

    Michael Turner

Dominant in the air for the home-side, distribution at times was poor especially in the first-half. Was poor in the second half particularly on the ground and he left too much space for the Baggies forwards

    Phil Bardsley

Fantastic finish from free-kick, defended well against Brunt tried to show him on his weaker foot rather than let him cut inside on his left.

  • Ahmed El Mohamady

    Ahmed El Mohamady

Debate will rage whether it was his goal or not. However he put a lot of pressure on Shorey to get the ball in the net. He was always looking for the ball and provided a great outlet for his side down the right.

  • Steed Malbranque

    Steed Malbranque

Good performance on his recall to the side. Had great skill on the ball and was always a threat to the Baggies defense. Lacked the final ball in the second half which could have made the difference for Steve Bruce's side.

  • Lee Cattermole

    2.50

    Lee Cattermole

Tenacious in the middle of the park, gave the Black Cats much needed bite in midfield. Was calm in possession and always seemed to pick the right pass. Lost impetus in the second half and lost midfield battle with Mulumbu and Scharner.

  • Kieran Richardson

    Kieran Richardson

Stupidly booked for dissent. Apart from that played well, made good runs from deep and tackled well. Was decent in possession and tried to get forward moves going for his side.

  • Danny Welbeck

    Danny Welbeck

Strong display and got through plenty of work for the home side. Just lacked that final killer touch when in possession otherwise he may have well got on the score-sheet

  • Asamoah Gyan

Asamoah Gyan Flop of the Match

Disappointing performance from the Ghanaian, his passing was off and he looked weak in the challenge particularly in his scraps with Meite and Olsson.

    Anton Ferdinand

Looked ok after coming on for Mensah. Was quite vocal at the back which helped his side, handled West Brom’s aerial threats quite well and was watchful of Cox’s movement

  • Boudewijn Zenden

    2.50

    Boudewijn Zenden

Tried to add much needed composure to the Black Cats in the second half but struggled with physicality of Scharner and Mulumbu.

  • Stéphane Sessegnon

    Stéphane Sessegnon

Didn't have time to effect the game in the second half but was wasteful when he did have the ball

  • Scott Carson

    Scott Carson

Handling and kicking were okay and did well when put under pressure by defense. Couldn’t do anything with either of the goals but wasn’t helped by Shorey with the first.

  • Jonas Olsson

    3.00

    Jonas Olsson

Had a bit of trouble with Welbeck, but handled Gyan very well indeed. Dominant like Meite in the air where he had little opposition all day.

  • Abdoulaye Meite

    3.00

    Abdoulaye Meite

Handled the threat of Gyan very well and kept him under wraps for most of the game. Was good in the air and provided a threat going forward when Albion had set pieces.

  • Nicky Shorey

    2.50

    Nicky Shorey

Perhaps the worst of the West Brom defenders, struggled against Elmohamady in the air and with his pace. Tried to threaten going forward with his accurate left foot which put Sunderland under pressure at times.

  • Steven Reid

    2.50

    Steven Reid

Struggled with Malbranque, especially with his trickery could have prevented the cross for the first goal. Tried to get forward to play his natural game whenever he could to offer Brunt an option on his outside.

  • Jerome Thomas

    Jerome Thomas

Decent performance from the winger who always offered himself down the left for his side. Gradually got to see more of the ball in the second half his game improved as the game wore on.

  • Paul Scharner

    3.50

    Paul Scharner

Provided a great shield to the defense and was strong in the tackle all game. Tried to get forward whenever he could and was a threat form set pieces all afternoon with his height and power in the air. Good finish for the goal.

  • Youssouf Mulumbu

Youssouf Mulumbu Top of the Match

Good finish for the goal and dominated in midfield particularly in the second half where he was first to everything. Showed calm and poise when in possession.

  • Chris Brunt

    Chris Brunt

Always a threat, with his cannon of a left foot. Was instrumental in everything the Baggies did going forward. Gave the Sunderland defense a tough time of it.

  • Peter Odemwingie

    3.50

    Peter Odemwingie

Odemwingie Predatory instincts showed as he grabbed his 11th of the season. Good movement along with his strike partner confused the Black Cats defense

  • Simon Cox

    Simon Cox

Great performance from the striker his movement caused the defense all sorts of problems. Always available for a pass and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.
