Sampdoria 1-1 Milan: Pazzini Equaliser Gives Blucerchiati A Valuable Point

Sampdoria came back from a goal down to grab a draw with Serie A leaders Milan at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris this evening.

An impressive Robinho gave Milan the lead just before the half-time break but a rejuvenated Sampdoria regained parity thanks to Giampaolo Pazzini early in the second half, but neither side could find a winner.

Milan took the game to Sampdoria from the kick-off with Robinho getting in an early shot but Gianluca Curci made a comfortable save from the Brazilian.

The home team made themselves very compact and allowed Milan little time on the ball, this though gave them little penetration when going forward themselves but they were making good use of Pazzini with the long ball as he was winning his battle with Alessandro Nesta.

However, Milan had the majority of possession and put Samp under a lot of pressure, but the Blucerchiati held firm with the midfield pairing of FernandoTissone and Angelo Palombo sitting strong in front of the defense.

Almost constant pressure from the Rossoneri nearly paid off when Robinho received a nice ball from Zlatan Ibrahimovic only for his shot from outside the area to be parried away by Curci.

But then just before half-time Milan's front pair combined to give their side the lead. Robinho fed the ball to Ibrahimovic on the left, he took it past Reto Ziegler and sucked in Daniele Gastaldello, leaving Robinho with plenty of time once he received the return pass to pick his spot before smashing past Curci.

It was nothing more than the away side deserved as they went in at the break 1-0 up.

After the break Milan were still the more dominant side with Clarence Seedorf pulling the strings to begin with, but Sampdoria slowly edged into the game as Guido Marilungo and Pazzini started to ask the away defense some questions.

Then not long after they got their reward when Pazzini equalized from a corner. It was poor play from Christian Abbiati whose tame clearance forced Nesta to concede a corner after a Samp throw. It was from this corner that Pazzini powered home to bring his side level.

The goal gave Samp reams of confidence as they looked to get at Milan's backline at every opportunity. They seemed to find an extra gear and forced Abbiati into another save from a Nicola Pozzi header.

The game opened up as both teams searched for a winner and it was Milan who came up with a golden opportunity after some good link up play between Massimo Ambrosini and Seedorf, only for the Dutchman's low shot to be saved by Curci.

Spurred on by this chance Milan piled on the pressure for the remainder of the game with Robinho going close but his shot was fired wide, but in the end no one could find a winner.

The result means Milan extend their lead at the top of Serie A if only by one point, while Sampdoria remain in eighth but are likely to slip further down the table after the full card of fixtures has been played.
