Inter 5-2 Parma: Super Stankovic Spurs Nerazzurri Resurrection

Inter 5-2 Parma: Super Stankovic Spurs Nerazzurri Resurrection

The Beneamata came through a seven goal thriller to put their recent crisis behind them and return to winning ways on the peninsula.

Inter got their domestic campaign back on track as they overcame Parma in an entertaining victory at the San Siro.

The Gialloblu got off to a flying start when Hernan Crespo opened the scoring after just 240 seconds when he slotted home Angelo’s well placed cross at the near post. Dejan Stankovic leveled things midway into the first half when his speculative effort took a deflection off Alessandro Lucarelli to finish in the bottom corner.

Less than a minute late the Serbian put Inter ahead when he again struck from the edge of the box and found a deflection, this time off Luca Antonelli, to the joy of the San Siro faithful. The Nerazzurri found a vital third goal shortly after when Esteban Cambiasso tapped in at the far post following Wesley Sneijder’s corner.

Shortly before the break Crespo reduced the distances between the side as he latched onto a poor clearance by Marco Materazzi to bury a finish past a helpless Castellazzi.

Despite striking the woodwork on two occasions after the re-start the visitors were unable to find a way back. Rafael Benitez’s side stretched their lead as Thiago Motta made the most of some suspect defending to fire home from close range. Stankovic then put the game to bed as he sealed his hattrick and a much needed three points for the Nerazzurri.

The win lifted Inter to within one point of rivals Juventus in third place. Parma were left to pay for some ingenuity at the back and went home with nothing despite scaring the Italian champions on a number of occasions.

The game started brightly with the Crociati immediately imposing themselves against a decimated Nerazzurri makeshift XI. The visitors wasted no time in breaking the deadlock and needed just four minutes when Crespo’s delicate touch at the near post dumbfounded Luca Castellazzi to finish in the back of the net.

Inter looked rocked following their early deficit and Parma threatened to double their lead with some dangerous counter attacks. Fortune finally smiled on the Nerazzurri on 17 minutes however when Stankovic’s speculative drive took a wicked deflection off Lucarelli to leave Mirante with little chance between the sticks.

After finding their feet in front of goal it took the Benamata just 60 seconds to move ahead when Stankovic again shot from the edge of the box to nestle the ball this time in the bottom left corner.

Inter looked possessed and through everything at the visitors who were struggling to tread water. Cambiasso took further advantage on 24 minutes when he popped up at the back post to tap home Sneijder’s well placed corner.

The visitors refused to shy away and were rewarded for their courage when Crespo bagged his brace on 35 minutes. The former Nerazzurri hitman made the most of Materazzi’s poor clearance and then nestled the ball expertly into the bottom corner.

In the second period the sides picked up where they had left off and Angelo went desperately close to leveling as he struck the post from close range on 50 minutes.

The Nerazzurri stretched their lead 18 minutes from time when substitute Thiago Motta popped up inside the box to fire home following some scandalous defending by the visitors.

No sooner had they conceded Parma struck the crossbar at the other end leaving Castellazzi rooted to his line as he looked on. Seconds later Stankovic put the game to bed as he bagged his hattrick following Sneijder well placed through pass.

The result lifted Inter back into the chasing pack and leaves them seven points off the pace at the top of the Serie A standings. The Nerazzurri now prepare to face Lazio on Friday evening as they look to continue on the road to recovery.
