Juventus 1-3 Palermo: Sensational Pastore Steers Rosanero To Victory In Turin

Javier Pastore was the difference as he scored and picked up an assist as Palermo overcame the lackluster Bianconeri in Turin.

An early goal from Javier Pastore set Palermo on their way against Juventus, who also conceded from Josip Ilicic and a late Cesare Bovo free kick, though they did pull one back late on from Vincenzo Iaquinta.

Having put in their best performance of the season against Udinese, Juventus did not start the match in the same fashion as Palermo took an early lead at the Stadio Olimpico through Pastore.

The attacking midfielder was able to put the ball in the back of the net after good work from Ilicic and Mauricio Pinilla.

From the off the Juventus defense looked extremely nervous during the opening stages as they were stretched time and time again by a confident Palermo side, led by the impressive Pastore.

The young Argentine was at the heart of every Palermo attack, holding the ball well and always spotting the correct pass, though he wasn't always on target with his delivery.

Thankfully for the home support, Juve settled down and started to gain more possession while looking ever dangerous through Milos Krasic on the right side.

But even with the increase in possession the Bianconeri were lacking ideas in the final third, as their crosses were easily dealt with, through balls always cut out and players often caught in possession.

However, as the first half came to an end Alessandro Del Piero forced Salvatore Sirigu into a fantastic save to tip his shot from distance over the bar. Then Pastore hit the post after a slip from Marco Motta allowed him a free shot at goal from 10 yards. Not to be outdone Juve were straight back up the field and Del Piero hit the crossbar in an action packed end to the half.

Juventus picked up where they left off in the second half, as constant pressure was applied to the Palermo goal but even with the introduction of Amauri and Iaquinta, a breakthrough was still some way off as Sirigu was barely tested by the Juventus forwards.

They paid for their lack of cutting edge when Pastore's shot from the left edge of the penalty area was parried by Storari into the path of Ilicic whose whose shot into the ground bounced over the helpless goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

To their credit, the home team did not give up and went close through Krasic whose shot from the right side of the box flashed inches wide of Sirigu's far post, then Amauri had a free header but could not get the better of Sirigu who pushed the ball out from goal.

Bovo then rubbed salt into the Juve wounds with a spectacular free kick in the final moments of the match. Though Iaquinta scored a consolation moments after the restart, to give Juve some semblance of credibility.

The result gives the Rosanero their first win of the season and moves them into 15th position, just ahead of Juventus who have now dropped to 16th.
