Deportivo shot-stopper Manu produced a series of excellent saves to deny Sevilla the win as both sides played out an entertaining 0-0 draw at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

The hosts spurned a series of clear-cut chances, and struck the crossbar twice through Alvaro Negredo and Abdoulay Konko, but the breakthrough was not forthcoming and Deportivo will be the happier of the two with this scoreline.

Sevilla won 4-1 in their last league outing versus Levante, but the relegation candidates were not expected to pose Antonio Alvarez’s side any problems, and so a regimented Deportivo la Coruna represented a far sterner test.

And indeed the home support grew restless as the home side failed to penetrate Miguel Angel Lotina’s outfit, who had clearly arrived with taking a point their main objective.

In a first-half of poor quality, Alvaro Negredo was afforded the best opportunity, bravely leaping to challenge ‘keeper Manu to a teasing Diego Perotti delivery, but the former Real Madrid midfielder’s thumping header bounced off the crossbar and to safety.

Jesus Navas and Didier Zokora also spurned half chances but it was not the level of attacking verve that the Rojiblancos faithful had expected, and they expressed their disappointment as the players trudged off to a chorus of whistles.

In the second half, Sevilla were much more responsive and created a host of chances. Negredo, who is struggling to find form, brought the best out of stand-in goalkeeper Manu, who produced a point-blank save to deny the Spanish international.

Diego Perotti, Martin Caceres and Jose Carlos all went close, and when Abdoulay Konko smashed the bar, the second time in the match the woodwork had been shaken, los Nervionenses knew it wasn’t to be their evening.

Luis Fabiano was thrown on for the final fifteen minutes, but not even the prolific Brazilian could find a way past Manu, only involved due to a shoulder injury for regular Daniel Aranzubia.

The match finished goalless, Deportivo's second consecutive nil-nil, but they will be pleased to leave Andalucia with a point, while Sevilla will most definitely see this scoreline as two points dropped given the manner in which they dominated the match.
