Player Ratings: Bayern Munich 4-1 Schalke.

Goal.com rates the players on show in Bayern Munich's convincing 4-1 victory over a dreadful Schalke side, who did not test Hans-Jorg Butt once in 90 minutes.

    Hans-Jörg Butt

Did not cover himself in glory for the equalizer as he was caught ball-watching instead of dealing with Farfan's cross. In fact such was Schalke's impotency in attack that he did not have a single save to make in the entire game. He had to console himself with the odd goal kick.

  • Diego Contento

    Diego Contento

Was tenacious at left-back: strong in the challenges and very committed, which pleased the home fans. Did his bit coming forward although he was not really needed. A surprise when he went off as he was having a good game in place of Pranjic.

  • Holger Badstuber

    Holger Badstuber

Suffered a great deal of embarrassment when he put the ball over his own goal line for Schalke's equalizer. Recovered well thereafter and had little to do as Schalke posed little threat. Was very tidy with the ball at his feet, giving little away.

  • Daniel Van Buyten

    Daniel Van Buyten

Is enjoying his football in recent weeks. The imposing Belgian had no problems with Raul or Edu and not only was his reading of the game spot on but his distribution was a valuable asset in Bayern's attacks.

  • Philipp Lahm

    Philipp Lahm

A solid game for the captain at right-back, he perhaps will be disappointed not to have got closer to Farfan's cross for the equalizer, but he was excellent going up and down the right.

  • Franck Ribéry

    Franck Ribéry

The joie de vivre has returned to Ribery's game and he was outstanding alongside Muller and Robben. His vision helped prise open the Schalke defence and he linked up brilliantly with Robben. His electric change of pace was too much for Uchida to cope with. The sense of anticipation among the fans when he runs with the ball has returned, which is great to see.

  • Bastian Schweinsteiger

    Bastian Schweinsteiger

Always available for the ball, he had the Schalke midfield like a puppet on a string, right where he wanted them. He was too strong for the defensive trio in the duels and his command of the ball was up to his usual high standards. Chose his moments to break forward into the penalty area from deep as well.

  • Thomas Müller

Thomas Müller Top of the Match

Another top quality performance from Muller down the right. Set the tone for an energetic display by capitalizing on Annan's early error. Also got his name on the scoresheet twice with a cool finish after reacting to Robben's free-kick and a late fourth as well as providing Robben with an intelligent assist. Man of the match without a doubt.

  • Anatoliy Tymoshchuk

    Anatoliy Tymoshchuk

Although he will have more difficult assignments in the midfield, he gave a commanding performance. Read the game well and was clean with his tackles.

  • Arjen Robben

    4.00

    Arjen Robben

Showed on his return to the team that he is one of the top three players in the world. He opened the scoring and combined superbly with Muller and Ribery thanks to his movement, pace, quick feet and quick thinking footballing brain.

  • Mario Gomez
    23
    3
    3.50

    Mario Gomez

The Bundesliga's leading marksman was again on the scoresheet as he was in the right place at the right time on 19 minutes. Also did a lot of good work for his team in the wide areas, particularly early on as Bayern sought to impose themselves.

Replaced Contento midway through the second period forcing a reshuffle in the Bayern ranks. Kept hold of the ball well enough without having ever to exert himself in his 18 minutes on the pitch.

    Manuel Neuer

Failed to produce the heroics of Wednesday as he saw the defenders in front of him ripped apart. Made an error for Bayern's third as he came out of his goal only to end up in no man's land thanks to Muller's clever header. Did though redeem himself with a couple of good second-half stops. Koan Neuer? Bayern would be very foolish to listen to those fans.

  • Hans Sarpei

Hans Sarpei Flop of the Match

He gave the ball away shortly before Annan's blunder and it all went downhill from there. The veteran utility man was pulled from pillar to post by the deadly duo of Muller and Robben down his flank and it was no surprise when he came off at half-time.

  • Christoph Metzelder
    5

    3.00

    Christoph Metzelder

Another miserable afternoon for the former Dortmund man who saw his former club celebrate the title today. His foul on Robben led to Bayern's second goal and although he made a clearance off the line to deny the Dutchman, his lack of mobility was again a problem for Ralf Rangnick.

  • Kyriakos Papadopoulos
    5
    4
    2.50

    Kyriakos Papadopoulos

Swapped with Matip meaning he took up a place in the back four. He showed glimpses of his promise putting himself about with his strength but that was all too often overshadowed by a lack of positional awareness against Bayern's lightning quick combination play.

  • Atsuto Uchida
    5
    0
    0.00

    Atsuto Uchida

The Japanese right-back was completely overwhelmed by Ribery's power, speed and change of pace. He looked like a little boy lost at times against the Frenchman and lacked his usual bite in attack down the right.

  • Jurado
    3
    1
    2.00

    Jurado

His game was devoid of skill until a sharp run down the left on 38 minutes but even that amounted to nothing. Played the odd decent through ball but Bayern's defenders were always there to read the Spaniard's intentions.

  • Joel Matip
    6
    1
    2.50

    Joel Matip

A mixed bag for the young Cameroonian who helped force Badstuber into the own goal but who was also error prone at the same time. He gave the ball away in his own defensive third on more than one occasion, putting his side in deep trouble.

  • Peer Kluge
    3
    3
    2.00

    Peer Kluge

One would expect some fight and gusto from Kluge but he was second best in midfield as Schweinsteiger won most of the 50-50 battles. Hasn't quite looked the same player since returning from injury in all honesty.

  • Anthony Annan
    3
    1
    2.00

    Anthony Annan

His laziness on the left touchline led to Bayern's opening goal as he allowed Mario Gomez to nip in behind after his attempt to keep the ball in play. His desperate afternoon continued as his passing was terrible and he just did not look interested in playing for Schalke, which is a shame given his ability.

  • Jefferson Agustin Farfán
    7
    -1
    2.50

    Jefferson Agustin Farfán

Despite the one-sided nature of the game, he had one particularly good moment. Produced a tantalising cross, which led to Schalke's equaliser although all too often his bursts of pace were followed by poor decision-making. Booked for a nudge on Robben.

  • Raúl
    7
    2
    2.00

    Raúl

Cut an isolated figure in the first half as he received next to no service from the midfield. After a difficult semi-final in midweek, he was given an early rest as Edu came on at the break.

Substitutions

  • Sergio Escudero
    2
    1
    0.00

    Sergio Escudero

Gave Schalke an orthodox left-back after he replaced Matip but it made no difference to Robben's ability to hurt the Royal Blues.

  • Alexander Baumjohann
    4
    3
    2.50

    Alexander Baumjohann

Never got into the game after his introduction and has tailed off after a promising start under Rangnick. Lacked the confidence to take on the Bayern midfielders.

  • Edu
    4
    2
    2.50

    Edu

Normally, the big target man makes at least some impact on the game with his strength, hard work and persistance but he was anonymous in the second half. May as well have stayed on the bench.
