Player Ratings: Levante 0-1 Valencia
Goal.com rates the players on show as Los Che edge out their derby rivals...
By Paul Macdonald
The keeper barely had a difficult save to make in the entire match, with any efforts from Valencia coming from long range, and which he dealt with comfortably. No chance with Mata's late goal.
Played Mata onside for the striker to run clear in on goal, but prior to that had been solid and probably deserving of keeping a clean sheet.
The rotund defender may be 35 years of age, but he remains, quite literally, a huge presence in the Levante back four, and he managed to throw his frame into blocks and challenges whenever possible.
Foolishly gave away a first-half penalty kick, needlessly bringing down Maduro, and was relieved to see Mata squander the chance. Crude challenge caught Feghouli at waist height, and was fortunate to be only booked.
Dealt comfortably with either striker of Pablo Hernandez dropping onto his side of the pitch, and easily dealt with an inept visiting attack.
Sat deep with Pallardo often protection to the back four, and did his job competently without ever really exerting an influence in the centre of the pitch.
Comfortably helped break up attacks for the first hour of the contest, but struggled when Juan Mata dropped into a supporting striker role, with the Spaniard eventually netting the winner.
Was always in an attacking position to deliver into the area, but too often found just one target in the area, and a result resorted to shooting, with little impact.
Like his compatriot on the opposite wing, found attacking support difficult to come by, and often had to cut back inside to find a teammate with no options in the area.
Was given the task of supporting Caicedo but too often left him isolated, and as a result Levante struggled to create a chance of note.
Always a willing runner, and Levante's only genuine goal threat, he made life difficult for Dealbert and Stankevicius without being able to fashion a genuine opening. Second half goal ruled out for offside.
The former Valencia player came on late in the game.
Almost won a penalty within seconds of arriving on the pitch. Booked for silly challenge on Stankevicius.
Ex Depor man came on in the second half in an attempt to shore up centre of the pitch.
Barely troubled throughout the entire ninety minutes, with Levante struggling to record a shot on target.
Enjoyed his first La Liga start of the season, and although Caicedo's pace sometimes gave him problems, he will be pleased to keep a clean sheet.
The Lithuanian is enjoying a run in the side at the moment, and switched into centre of defence for this match, keeping Caicedo out.
The Portuguese full-back did not get forward as often as he would have liked, but kept tabs on Juanlu and stopped him from reaching the byline to get crosses into the area.
The winger-turned full-back still often flatters to deceive when asked to perform his defensive duties, and is still much more comfortable in the opposition half.
The winger got better as the match went on, providing rare moments of quality with neat footwork, and provided the through pass for Juan Mata's goal.
Struggled with form and injuries this season, and played in a more advanced role in a diamond four in midfield, but did not get involved as much as he would have liked.
The versatile Dutchman played in the holding role in midfield, and won possession back well for his team, always making himself available to build attacks from deep.
Missed a first half penalty, struck the crossbar with a second half free kick, then finally made the difference with a neat finish to settle the match.
Was given a rough time by Robuste, who made his physical presence felt, but constantly worked hard and gave everything for the team in the final third.
a frustrated evening for the frontman, who was reduced to efforts from distance and wide of goal, and was unhappy to see his number raised with 25 minutes remaining.
Came on near the end and received a vicious challenge from Robuste at waist height.
Gave a superb cameo of his abilities in the last fifteen minutes, showing skill and guile from the left.
Came on in injury time.
