For the Columbus Crew, Saturday night's game against the Colorado Rapids was a chance to exact a matter or revenge against the club who beat them earlier this season by a 1-0 score line.
The Crew were also looking to redeem themselves after their last league game's disastrous performance, losing comprehensively 2-0 to Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto. Last weekend, the Black-and-Gold looked incapable of stringing multiple passes together or stopping Salt Lake from the same.
First Half
The game started quickly for the home side, taking a early lead after just six minutes. After a corner was only partially cleared by the Rapids, the ball bounced to Adam Moffat, who fed Emmanuel Ekpo. After a couple of touches, Ekpo slid in a perfectly weighted through-ball to Eddie Gaven, who was instantly brought down by the charging Rapid keeper Matt Pickens.
The referee had no hesitation in whistling the penalty, but leaving Pickens unpunished for what a clear foul. Stepping up to take the spot kick was, of course, Guillermo Barros Schelotto, who buried the penalty low and hard to the left, out of the reach of the correctly-guessing Pickens.
Just like that, the Crew had a 1-0 lead. The action slowed after the goal, with both teams trading shots and saves, until Crew captain Frankie Hedjuk was issued a yellow card for a reckless foul on Omar Cumming in the 22nd minute.
The first half looked completed when, out of almost nothing, Colorado equalized. A long ball from Pickens was headed down by Connor Casey to Pablo Mastroeni, who played a nifty one-two to split the Crew defense and bury his chance past Crew keeper Will Hesmer to level the score just before halftime.

Second Half
Just as in the first half, the home side came out and found the net, however, there are some questions that should be asked of the Rapids normally stout backline.
A long goal kick by Crew keeper Hesmer was headed awkwardly by Marvell Wynne back in between his center halves and keeper. Crew striker Jason Garey capitalized and slotted home his second goal of the season, then promptly went and celebrated in front of a stunned and jubilant Nordecke.
Garey looked to add a second goal when he was ruled offside after being fed by Emmanuel Ekpo.
The honor of the insurance goal came to second half super sub Steven Lenhart, who scored off a free kick by Schelotto. The far post delivery was headed back into danger by Chad Marshall to a waiting Lenhart, who finished well with his header and killed off the game.
Lenhart seems to be rounding into a good bit of form, as he has scored four goals in the last four league games for the Crew, after only tallying once before the All-Star game. The Rapids were not able to create any meaningful pressure afterward, so at full time the hometown Crew took home three points in front of 16,063 fans at Crew Stadium.
