Dortmund 2-0 Wolfsburg: Sahin Wonder-Goal Leaves McClaren's Job In Danger

Borussia dominate a lackluster Wolfsburg who fall to their third straight Bundesliga defeat.

Dortmund were too hot to handle for Wolfsburg at the Westfalenstadion as Steve McClaren's team slumped to yet another defeat.

A super-strike from Nuri Sahin and a well-worked team goal finished off by the impressive Shinji Kagawa have left the English coach's future in doubt.

The first chance of the game fell to Wolfsburg captain Edin Dzeko in the sixth minute who charged through the Dortmund defense after some great link-up play with the gifted Diego. However not even a dangerous deflection from Nevin Subotic could direct the Bosnian striker's tame effort into the net.

Dortmund's first true chance of the game fell to last season's top scorer Lucas Barrios. Attacking left-back Marcel Schmelzer whipped in an accurate cross to the Paraguayan international who saw his header acrobatically turned over the bar by Diego Benaglio.

Barrios' effort seemed to spark the game into life with Borussia quickening the tempo. Yet the Ruhr natives were lucky to head into half-time level when in the 44th minute, danger man Dzeko found space 25 yards out and watched as his fantastic effort smashed off the helpless Weidenfeller's crossbar.

The second half started in a similar fashion to the first, plenty of endeavor from both sides but no real end product. Step forward Nuri Sahin.

On 50 minutes the young Turk picked the ball up 30 yards out, turned and rifled an unstoppable effort into Benaglio's right hand corner. Questions will be asked in regards to the 'keeper being off his line but take nothing away from Sahin, it was a goal for the footballing purists.

The goal clearly boosted the confidence of Jurgen Klopp's young team who nearly doubled their lead four minutes later. The soon to be German international Kevin Grobkreutz did brilliantly to find Barios who had peeled off Barzagli. The Argentinian-born forward's snapshot was expertly tipped away by Benaglio who kept his side in the game.

Dortmund certainly now had a stranglehold on the game and in the 67th minute Shinji Kagawa looked to put the result beyond doubt. The diminutive Japanese attacker was played through on goal by the impressive Grobkreutz. Kagowa kept his cool to slot the ball past the 'keeper. The former Cerezo Osako player is already proving to be one of the Bundesliga's bargains of the season.

Wolfsburg had no real answer for Dortmund's willingness to run who came close to adding a third in the 70th minute with the energetic Owomoyela cutting in and unleashing a ferocious 30 yard drive. Unluckily for the former Werder Bremen man, the ball rebounded back off the bar.

Wolfsburg struggled to get back into the game and even the introduction of Grafite failed to ignite the 2008-09 Bundesliga Champions. Dortmund now have full confidence as they prepare for Thursday's Europa League tie with Karpaty Lyiv.
