  Bullied Spurs' lone striker Robbie Keane and gobbled up almost everything thrown at him in the air. Made the difference at the other end of the pitch with a well-timed run and aggressive header to open the scoring.

  Made some good saves as United peppered his goal from range but his evening was marred by his involvement in the hosts' second, when he presented Nani with an empty net as he thought Spurs had been awarded a free-kick. Unfortunate, yes, but he should have checked with the officials.

  Paul Scholes may not have started but there was another little master on the pitch as the Croatian dictated the midfield for the visitors. Superb running, movement and passing and nearly scored with a driven half-volley that Van der Sar saved athletically.

  Well handled by Rafael early on and only once did he threaten to re-produce his San Siro magic with a solo run and right-footed shot that crept just wide. Shackled out of proceedings and unable to pose a real danger as United got bodies around him at every opportunity.

  Rattled the post with vicious strike from 20 yards that had compatriot Van der Sar beaten and always looked a danger when he picked the ball up in pocket of space, particularly in the first-half. Muscle injury which forced him off for Crouch in the 77th minute will be a real worry for Spurs fans.
