    David Marshall

Helpless to prevent the opener and beaten by a wonder strike when Watson's free kick flew past him from over 30 yards out.

    Steven Caulker

His looped header back across goal should have been converted by Cala but it was tipped onto the post and wide. Will have been disappointed to see McCann unmarked at the back post for the opener as he failed to marshal his defence.

    Kevin Theophile Catherine

A quiet afternoon in an attacking sense as he was tasked with keeping McManaman then McClean quiet. Both gave him a difficult time and saw Gomez break free down his side for the opener.

  • Andrew Taylor

    Andrew Taylor

Defended stubbornly all game and wasn't frightened to get forward and offer support down the left flank. Looked assured in possession.

  • Cala

    Cala

Came agonisingly close to pulling Cardiff level for the second time when his header was tipped onto the post in the last move of the first half. He really ought to have scored. A solid debut otherwise.

    Gary Medel

Replaced at half-time after a quiet first half. Didn't see too much of the ball with lots of Cardiff's play going through Zaha and Campbell.

    M. Eikrem

Won several free kicks for his side in advanced situations as he tried to make things happen. Didn't quite trouble Wigan as much as his manager would have liked, however. Replaced late on.

    M. Daehli

The former Manchester United man had a quiet game and struggled to cope in the midfield battle. Came close to the equaliser when his effort from the left-hand side flew over the bar.

  • Fraizer Campbell

    Fraizer Campbell

Showed real composure to pounce on a scramble in the area and fire his side level with a left-footed strike into the bottom corner. Unlucky to see a header hit the bar moments later. Lively all afternoon.

  • Jo Inge Berget

    Jo Inge Berget

Replaced with half an hour to play after a difficult afternoon. Asked to play in a wider role when he is better suited to a more central position. Looked uncomfortable in possession all game and was often dispossessed.

  • Wilfried Zaha

    Wilfried Zaha

His trickery and pace proved a real handful for the visitors all afternoon. Provided several quality crosses into the box but was guilty of losing possession in advanced areas on a few too many occasions.

    Bo-Kyung Kim

Introduced with ten minutes to play but failed to make the impact his manager would have been after.

    Craig Noone

A lively second-half introduction and was a key figure for Cardiff as they chased the equaliser. Lacking a touch of quality in the final third, though.

  • Don Cowie

    Don Cowie

Brought on at half time to offer some stability in midfield and saw a lot of the ball. Kept play ticking over and set up one or two passages of play in advanced positions.

    Ali Al Habsi

Not at fault when Campbell pulled Cardiff level but did brilliantly to prevent Cala from doing the same as he tipped his close ranger header onto the post.

  • Emmerson Boyce

    Emmerson Boyce

The captain was first to everything, with Cardiff enjoying lots of possession in the final third. Organised his defence well in a resolute display at the back.

  • James Perch

    James Perch

Saw his early effort fizzle just wide of the far post. Was composed throughout and stood up strong to constant Cardiff pressure down his flank.

  • Iván Ramis

    Iván Ramis

Linked up well with Boyce in the central defensive partnership. Reluctant to play the long ball and often opted for the neat pass out of defence. Anticipated play expertly.

  • Chris McCann

    Chris McCann

Opened the scoring when found unmarked six yards out and smashed his left-footed strike home. A willing runner and tireless worker thereafter. Unlucky not to double his tally when he tried to loop over the keeper from a tight angle.

  • Ben Watson

    Ben Watson

Mr FA Cup made his intentions clear early on with a defence-splitting pass to send Perch through. Involved in all of Wigan's play and scored a wonder free kick from all of 30 yards out. Replaced in the second half.

  • Jordi Gómez

    Jordi Gómez

Some brilliant work down the left saw him break free inside the area and cut back to McCann for the opener. A creative outlet all afternoon for his side. Replaced late on.

  • R. Espinoza

    R. Espinoza

Threw himself at everything as Cardiff pressed for the equaliser late on. No nonsense football saw him clear the ball more than pass it but defended bravely.

  • Jean Beausejour

    Jean Beausejour

An understated game from the midfield man who protected the back four and allowed McCann to provide the legs in the middle. Constant simple passes helped his side move out from defensive positions.

  • Callum McManaman

    Callum McManaman

Proved a tricky customer on his wing and won the battle on his flank. His pace caused problems but he seemed to be struggling with injury late on. Replaced by McClean.

  • Marc-Antoine Fortune

    Marc-Antoine Fortune

Looked isolated up front as his side attempted to win the midfield battle and cut a frustrated figure throughout. His strength and pace threatened to send him clear on a few occasions but he just lacked the required composure.
