Columbus Crew 0-2 Toronto FC: Bradley hits winner

David Manning-USA TODAY Sports

Michael Bradley continued his fine run of form with a goal as Toronto recorded its third win of the season.

Despite playing without striker Jermain Defoe in front of him, Michael Bradley saw his good week continued Saturday, with the USA midfielder slotting home the game's first goal and helping Toronto FC to a 2-0 win over the Crew in Columbus.

Bradley, who starred in the USA's 2-2 draw with Mexico on Wednesday night, notching a goal and an assist in that game, got his team on the board with a well-placed finish from a narrow angle in the 11th minute. The goal was the first this season by any TFC player not named Defoe.

Just after halftime Columbus nearly pulled level when a well-worked free kick allowed Bernardo Anor to rip a left-footed shot at Toronto's goal. Julio César got down well to save, and though he could only push the ball back into the middle of the box, his defense managed to clear the danger.

Bradley lasted 73 minutes before being substituted, but Toronto was not done without him. Issey Nakajima-Farran knocked home a cross from Justin Morrow in the 85th minute to make sure of the win and give Toronto its third victory of the young MLS season.

Toronto's third win of the 2013 MLS season came in the club's last match of July, a 2-1 result against the Columbus Crew. The loss Saturday was Columbus' first of the season.
