MLS Preview: Columbus Crew - Philadelphia Union

MLS Preview: Columbus Crew - Philadelphia Union

Paul Frederiksen

Heading into the Crew's home opener, both teams have enjoyed promising starts to 2014 as they look to get back to the playoffs.

After being on the outside looking in at the playoffs the past two years, the Columbus Crew and Philadelphia Union are off to bright starts in 2014.

The Union drew 1-1 at the Portland Timbers and grabbed a 1-0 win in their home opener against the New England Revolution, while Columbus enjoyed an emphatic 3-0 win at D.C. United before taking last weekend off. The Eastern Conference foes will look to keep the momentum going when they meet Saturday at 6 p.m. ET on MLS Live.

The match at Crew Stadium features two U.S. national team veterans who returned to MLS during the offseason in search of regular playing time: Columbus defender Michael Parkhurst and Philadelphia midfielder Maurice Edu.

Philadelphia will be shorthanded defensively for this one, with right back Sheanon Williams (quad) and center back Austin Berry (hamstring) likely missing out. The outlook is better for Columbus, with Parkhurst set to play after recovering from a calf knock and Dominic Oduro ready to make his 2014 debut after serving a suspension in the opener.

The teams met twice in 2013, playing to a 1-1 draw at Crew Stadium in April before Philadelphia won 3-0 at PPL Park in June.
