    Fraser Forster

Was rarely troubled unlike the first leg, but when he was called upon the English hopeful had a few moments that left hearts in mouths for the home support, but made some crucial saves.

    Adam Matthews

Gave Forrest in front of him on the right a lot of support, as the home side continued to move forward in wave after wave of attack. Made a superb clearance off the line to keep his side in the game.

The Nigerian defender had an easy night until Celtic drew level, when the visitors starting to move forward a lot more than they had in the first half. But he managed to deal with what was put in front of him.

    Charles Mulgrew

Moved to left-back and wasn’t put under pressure in a defensive sense, but when he went forward, he showed how important his accurate left foot is to the Parkhead side.

    M. Lustig

Played in an unfamiliar position at the heart of the Celtic defence, but didn’t show that it wasn’t his natural position as he used his height to good effect, whether it be in defence, or at attacking set-pieces.

Was simmering to boiling point at times as he put in a couple of unsavoury challenges, but when he calmed down and took a breath, he was a linchpin for the Scottish champions.

Another superb night for the midfielder, two days before his 30th birthday, as he dictated tempo in the midfield and let fly with a wonder goal just before half-time that helped lift the home fans. Picked up an injury late on and was replaced by Boerrigter.

    Joe Ledley

Wasn’t as effective as some of his teammates going forward, but was always willing to track back and help out his defence.

    James Forrest

Showed a lot of confidence early on as he looked to take on his man in the opening stages of the game. He also developed a good partnership with Matthews as they looked to whip the ball into the danger area. Was on hand to finish well in injury time.

  • Georgios Samaras

    Georgios Samaras

Looked a lot more comfortable playing wide on the left-hand side than he did playing through the middle in the first leg. Was in the right place at the right time to level up the tie just after the break.

  • Anthony Stokes

The Irish striker showed how badly he was missed by the Hoops in Astana, as he looked to get in behind the visiting defence and get shots on target. But he started to tire later on as the result of the lack of games he’s played recently, though had just enough strength to make a jinking run to set up the winner.

Was under siege in the opening minutes as Celtic looked to get an early goal, but the veteran keeper somehow managed to keep them at bay despite never looking entirely confident. Could do nothing with the goals he conceded.

    Nikola Vasiljević

Played in the middle of the back three and had to deal with the threat of Stokes as Celtic pushed forward constantly. Was also a threat from set-pieces.

    Andrey Poryvaev

Couldn’t move forward for the majority of the game as both Matthews and Forrest pushed him back and at times he was left doing double duty as the right side of the Celtic side moved forward.

The 23-year-old defender looked as solid as he did in the first leg, staying in position and blocking most of the attacks towards the box by the Celtic forward line.

    Aleksandar Simčević

Found Samaras a handful as the Greek forward constantly looked to take him on and he had no answer to the Celtic forward's surges forward. Had a superb effort that was well saved by Forster.

Continued were he left off in the first leg, with his long throws which causing the Celtic defence all sorts of problems. Had an incident in the first half when Brown looked to have stamped on him, but didn’t let that faze him as he continued to produce dangerous set-pieces.

Was put under huge amounts of pressure by the home side, who created a lot of chances, but managed to do well with most of the attacks.

Gevorg Ghazaryan Flop of the Match

Offered little going forward for the visitors as he was rarely allowed possession of the ball, and when he did receive it he was closed down by the home defence.

Anytime that the Colombian went forward he looked threatening, with some superb touches on the ball for the Kazakhstani side. Once his team were pegged back he was called upon a lot more than in the first half.

  • Andrey Finonchenko

The Shakhter skipper was extremely quiet; any time he got on the ball he looked to maintain possession, rather than moving forward. Never seemed to show the type of forward thinking that he did in the first leg. Was taken off in the closing stages for Zenkovich.

  • Sergei Khizhnichenko

    Sergei Khizhnichenko

Did a superb job as the hold-up man for Shakhter, as the ball was continually launched forward by his defence, but when he controlled the ball there were never enough players supporting him.

Replaced his skipper Finonchenko as time started to run out and made a shocking tackle on Forrest within minutes of coming on.
