Could have done nothing to prevent the Diego Costa goal as the strike was well-placed into the corner. Was perhaps lucky to still be on the park as he appeared to kick the Brazilian while he was on the ground after a scuffle in the box, but made some superb saves.
Was involved in a running battle with Costa which he ultimately lost. Was bullied at times by the Atletico man as he burst towards goal. However, actually showed some passion for the match, which was devoid among some of his team-mates.
Allowed his feathers to get ruffled by the Madrid front line and this caused him to lose his cool at times. Didn't really organise his defence well as he attempted to play offside at times when other did not.
Attempted to play offside for Atletico's goal and did not react in time to match the run of Diego Costa. Gave the ball away constantly in the opposition half and failed to see the run of Filipe on the overlap time and time again.
Got up and down that left wing all evening but struggled to match the runs of Arda when the Turk came inside. Attacking play was much better though as he bit the byeline to get crosses in a few times.
Was up for the battle in the middle of the park and certainly let the Atletico trio know he was there. Put in a few decent interceptions but once again struggled to pick a pass in the final third.
Seemed a bit like a rabbit caught in the headlights as he never got to grips with the fiery tension of a Madrid derby. Gave the ball away a few times and looked a little apprehensive. Withdrawn at half-time for Modric.
Arguably his quietest match since signing for Real Madrid. Struggled to get into the space in between the defence and midfield, which affected his ability to get involved in the play. Didn't see as much of the ball as he would have liked.
Á. Di María
Managed to put a few decent crosses into the box from the right that were not taken advantage of by team-mates. However, lacked some dynamism in his running and struggled to affect the play. Lost the ball for the goal and was taken off at the break.
A truly inept performance up top from the Frenchman. Failed to introduce team-mates into the match and failed to hold up the ball. Got on the end of a few crosses but each of the attempts sailed over the bar.
Cut an extremely frustrated figure at times and this resulted in a few shots in anger towards goal, none of which bothered Courtois whatsoever. Wasn't really interested in linking up with his team-mates in order to grab the equaliser.
Didn't have too much to deal with all night but when called into action was solid. Had a couple of dodgy moments but pulled off the save of the match when he parried away Morata's bicycle kick.
Showed plenty of ambition going forward and displayed a terrific engine down that left-hand side. Was guilty of some sportsmanship at times but was always available as an extra attacker down the flank.
Always kept fighting against Ronaldo and never gave up the chance even when the Portuguese cut inside. Didn't show too much ambition going forward but didn't allow any play to get in behind him defensively.
Headed out just about everything that came into his penalty area and organised the defence superbly, particularly in offside traps. Should have got on the scoresheet but sent a header over unmarked from a corner kick.
Gave Benzema absolutely no room to operate in the final third and was always straight up to his back whenever he received the ball to feet. Struggled for a bit of pace at times but excellent positioning made up for it.
Kept the ball superbly in the final third and was always looking to find the runs of team-mates from deep. Always posed a threat to Madrid but his match just lacked a decisive pass, cross, or goal.
Set up the only goal of the match with a delightful disguised through pass for Diego Costa and was unlucky not to net himself as he saw a wonderful attempt cannon off the crossbar in the second half. Oozed class when on the ball.
Summed up the fight and determination of Atletico with his bite in midfield. Was always in the face of the Madrid central midfield pairing and did not allow them any time to create play from deep.
Passed up a glorious opportunity to make it 2-0 in the first period when he drifted into the box unmarked only to send his header over from eight yards. However, made a massive contribution with his passing and calmness on the ball in midfield.
Seems to be forming a decisive partnership up top with Diego Costa as they played off each other well. Didn't manage to get as many shots away as he would have liked but showed a classy touch in the final third and introduced team-mates into the game.
A spectacular thorn in the side of Real Madrid all evening as he chased down the defenders constantly was always running after lost causes in the channels. Grabbed the solitary goal of the match with a lovely curled finish into the bottom right corner.
Fared much better in the middle of the park than Illarramendi and aimed to create play from deep.
Looked bright after his introduction and tested Courtois with a couple of fizzed strikes towards goal. Was a danger.
Was Madrid's biggest threat after coming on and nearly grabbed the equaliser was a spectacular bicycle kick.
