Player Ratings: Hull City 1-1 Tottenham

Paulinho's terrific second-half strike cancelled out home debutant Shane Long's opener to ensure a share of the spoils at the KC Stadium.

    Stephen Harper

Set up the opener, albeit inadvertently, when he launched a goal-kick forward and, deputising for Allan McGregor, the stopper was confident when coming for set-pieces and balls into the box. Had no chance with Paulinho's strike.

  • Liam Rosenior

    Liam Rosenior

Largely combatted the threats of Rose and Eriksen down the left, with the Dane constantly coming inside to get at the Hull defence. Committed to his defensive responsibilities but got forward with equal effect.

  • Maynor Figueroa

    Maynor Figueroa

A solid, composed display from the returning Honduran who forced Lennon inside and was neat with his distribution of the ball from the back. Dealt well with Spurs' increased pressure late on.

Curtis Davies Top of the Match

Assured as ever, the Tigers' leader was dominant and sussed out Soldado and Adebayor's gameplan from an early stage to frustrate the strike duo and lead, as ever, by example when his side were up against it.

  • Paul McShane

    Paul McShane

Marshalled the backline diligently and was intelligent with his passing. Sometimes slow to deal with balls into the frontmen but, on the whole, was dependable for the Tigers.

  • David Meyler

    2.50

    David Meyler

Combined industry with a creative edge and displayed a will to get into attacking areas and offer support to the hard-working strikeforce of Long and Jelavic but did not have a telling impact.

  • Tom Huddlestone

    Tom Huddlestone

His passing was astute and covered more ground than usual with his perceived lack of mobility not evident in attempting to stop the Spurs midfield in its tracks.

    Ahmed El Mohamady

Works so hard for this team, running up and down the right wing to assist at either end of the pitch and his delivery from the flanks caused problems for Dawson and Vertonghen.

  • Robbie Brady

    2.50

    Robbie Brady

Quiet performance by a man treated to cult hero status in these parts. Failed to thread the passes into the channels for Long and needed to get beyond when his attacking peers did pull wide.

  • Nikica Jelavic

    0
    3.00

    Nikica Jelavic

Much improved from his hapless midweek display in front of goal. Teamed up expertly with his new strike partner for the opener and showed clever link-up play throughout. Contested every ball with Spurs' rattled central defensive duo.

  • Shane Long

    Shane Long

Ran the Spurs defence ragged, pulling wide, chasing lost causes and dropping off into the hole to wreak havoc all afternoon. Took his goal with aplomb having peeled off Dawson, who will be glad to see the back of the Irishman.

    Robert Koren

Provided more artistry than Meyler as Hull narrowed the play as they sought to prevent the wave after wave of attacks stemming from the middle of the pitch. Played an exquisite pass to Jelavic to muster a goalscoring chance which was ultimately wasted. Impressive cameo all round.

  • George Boyd

    George Boyd

Struggled to get into the rhythm of the game but did plenty of chasing as Hull cleared their lines straight to the visitors' spare men. Fought hard but offered little quality.

  • Y. Sagbo

    Y. Sagbo

Had little time to make a sufficient impact on the game.

  • Hugo Lloris

    Hugo Lloris

Looked uncertain at times with the ball at his feet when tasked with finding his defensive colleagues but was solid with his handling, as you'd expect. Would be forgiven for blaming his defence for Long's goal and made a crucial save to deny Jelavic.

  • Kyle Walker

    Kyle Walker

Strangely subdued display from the right-back, who failed to offer Lennon an overlapping outlet ahead of him but did largely quell the threat of Brady.

  • Danny Rose
    0
    0
    3.00

    Danny Rose

Showed Walker the virtues of getting beyond the winger by supplying some dangerous crosses but they were not converted. Defended well on the whole too, matching Long's pace when he pulled out onto his flank.

  • Jan Vertonghen
    0
    0
    3.50

    Jan Vertonghen

Was not the guilty party in failing to thwart Hull's new firepower and was authoritative in the air upon his return to the side. Provided a calm head on the ball for good measure.

  • Michael Dawson
    0
    0
    3.00

    Michael Dawson

Endured a torrid time in the opening period as he chased the effervescent Long in vain but stuck to his guns and was commanding after the interval, particularly when tasked with dealing with Jelavic.

  • Aaron Lennon
    0
    0
    2.50

    Aaron Lennon

Probed the Hull defence frequently in the hope of opening space and started well but faded into obscurity drastically and failed to offer enough added sparkle in the final third.

  • Paulinho
    0
    0
    3.50

    Paulinho

Was largely over-run in the first half by Hull's bright start and offered neither defensive nor offensive cover. But that all changed after the break, slamming home the equaliser and finding space with regularity and ease to dictate the game.

  • Christian Eriksen
    0
    0
    3.00

    Christian Eriksen

Not as devastating as in recent matches but his passing was tidy and he worked space for others with his non-stop movement. Always posed a threat.

  • Nabil Bentaleb

    Nabil Bentaleb

Flattered to deceive at times. On the one hand sprayed some lovely passes into adventurous areas but also dwelt on the ball and lost out in the physical exchanges.

  • Roberto Soldado

Roberto Soldado Flop of the Match

The Spaniard just cannot buy a break. Wasted two gilt-edged chances, gave the ball away and at times looked disinterested when his side needed a cutting edge. Tim Sherwood may regret not buying a striker on this evidence.

  • Emmanuel Adebayor
    0
    0
    3.00

    Emmanuel Adebayor

Fought so hard for his side and relished the tussle with Hull's combative defensive trio. Laid on chances for his team-mates and gave his side a much-needed presence with Soldado largely on the periphery.

Substitutions

  • Harry Kane

    Harry Kane

Introduced for the final exchanges in the hope of potentially snatching a winner but he barely got a touch.
