Premier League Preview: Sunderland - Norwich City

Gus Poyet is hoping the Premier League's bottom side can build on its midweek success against the Blues when the Canaries visit the Stadium of Light.

Relegation-threatened Sunderland turns its attention to the visit of Norwich City in the Premier League after the club's Capital One Cup win over Chelsea.

Ki Sung-Yueng scored a dramatic late extra-time winner against Jose Mourinho's side to book Sunderland's place in the semifinals on Tuesday night.

Manager Gus Poyet urged his Sunderland side to build on that victory as the team looks to end a run of five top-flight games without a win.

The Stadium of Light outfit produced an encouraging display at fellow struggler West Ham last weekend, but a lack of a cutting edge ensured the team had to settle for a goalless draw.

Sunderland is four points adrift at the bottom of the table and has only won twice in the top flight this season, but the team can take heart from its recent home record against Norwich.

Trips to Sunderland have produced little cheer for Norwich, which has lost four of its last five games at the Stadium of Light and has failed to win there since Aug. 1997.

Fabio Borini and Ki both scored after coming off the bench against Chelsea and impressed Poyet with the impact they made.

"That’s why Fabio is so important for us because sometimes he doesn't find himself in the team for different reasons, but as soon as he gets on he affects the game and credit to him," the manager said. "Also Ki, you don't see him scoring too much but now he’s playing further forward I think he's going to give us that extra quality near the box, so they’ve done very well.

"You need players like that. Sometimes they are on the bench and they are not happy but then they become the heroes and then they go home really, really happy."

Poyet will be hoping Jack Colback (illness) is available to return, while Keiren Westwood (shoulder) and Carlos Cuellar (hip) are doubts once again.

Norwich makes the long journey north after taking seven points from its previous four games, while the club also won last time out on the road at West Brom.

In-form striker Gary Hooper will be looking to score in a third consecutive game after his stunning long-range strike in the 1-1 draw with Swansea City last Sunday.

Netherlands striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel (toe) and goalkeeper Mark Bunn (ankle) are set to return to the squad.

But Robert Snodgrass (knee), Anthony Pilkington (hamstring), and Alex Tettey (ankle) are all out, while Elliott Bennett (knee) is a doubt once again.
