Player Ratings: Newcastle 2-1 West Brom

Pardew's side record its fourth win on the bounce to climb the Premier League table and leave the Baggies with that sinking feeling at St James' Park

    Tim Krul

Tested early on from a Brunt free kick which he did well to tip round the post but looked uncharacteristically shaky when he dropped the ball from the resulting corner.

  • Fabricio Coloccini

    Fabricio Coloccini

Got in front of Sessengon's shot to prevent his side from going behind very early on. Showed his experience when dealing with the evidently quicker Long, showing the Irishman into wide positions and giving his colleagues the chance to get back.

  • Davide Santon

    Davide Santon

There were definite signs of a better understanding developing between the Italian and his left-sided comrade Gouffran. Was able to get forward and work in sync with the Frenchman. Still carried out his defensive duties as well, although will be disappointed West Brom's opener came down his flank.

  • Mike Williamson

    Mike Williamson

Former a solid partnership with Coloccini as West Brom rarely troubled the Newcastle goal. Looked a little leggy when up against some of the more fleet-footed opponents.

  • Mathieu Debuchy

    Mathieu Debuchy

Looked fresh after sitting out last week's game against Norwich through suspension. Got beyond Sissoko down the right time and again but his delivery varied from the dangerous to the daft.

  • Yohan Cabaye

    Yohan Cabaye

Continually linked with a move to a bigger club and he continues to show why as he showcased his eye for a defence-splitting pass once more. Happy to release Sissoko and Gouffran down the channels, the

    Cheikh Tiote

Picked up his almost obligatory yellow card as he got at the heels of the West Brom midfield. Looked strong throughout though and his performances continue to give his midfield team-mates the confidence to get forward.

  • Moussa Sissoko

Gace Ridgewell no let up as he motored up and down the right flank all afternoon. Often looked to pick up the ball inside but the lack of a deft touch often halted his progress. Unleashed an unstoppable strike for Newcastle's second.

  • Yoan Gouffran

    3.50

    Yoan Gouffran

Picked up his third goal in four games for the Magpies as he easily outjumped Mulumbu to make the most of Myhill's poor punch. Caused Billy Jones problems down the left with his pace.

  • Loïc Remy

    Loïc Remy

Heavily marshaled by the West Brom defence as they attempted to put an end to his recent scoring exploits. Was only denied in the opening period by the oblivious Jones and should have had a free kick when felled on the edge of the box by Olsson. Showed a nice touch to set up Sissoko.

  • Shola Ameobi

    3.50

    Shola Ameobi

Demonstrated his strength in the opening period but as happens too often, his finishing let him down when in decent shooting positions. Still, another impressive display, showing why Cisse is currently on the bench with his efforts on the pitch

    B. Myhill Flop of the Match

Will be a little narked by his role in Newcastle's opener as his poor punch was capitalized upon fully by Gouffran. Very little he could do about Sissoko's thumping drive. Didn't help his cause any further when almost gifting Debuchy a goal with a weak clearance.

  • Jonas Olsson

    2.00

    Jonas Olsson

Was lucky to get away with a tug on Remy at the end of the first half that went unnoticed as the Frenchman threatened to burst clean through. Came off second best in his aerial duel with Ameobi too often for any center back's liking.

  • Liam Ridgewell

    2.50

    Liam Ridgewell

Looked a little out of sorts in his first game back from injury. Struggled to keep pace with the Sissoko and didn't really help his side's cause when he got forward, wasting a couple of crossing opportunities.

  • Gareth McAuley

    2.50

    Gareth McAuley

Looked to take an early clattering when he jostled with Ameobi at a corner but was okay to continue. Like his center back partner Olsson, struggled with the aerial threat of Newcastle, although caused a nuisance from set pieces at the other end.

  • Billy Jones

    2.50

    Billy Jones

Got an important block on Remy's header in the first half but not too sure how much he knew about it as the ball deflected behind for a corner. Seemed to get away with a big hand ball shout in his own area when he misjudged Ameobi's flick on.

  • James Morrison

    2.50

    James Morrison

Back in the side after missing the derby, the Scotsman took on a holding role as Steve Clark looked to send more attack-minded players forward. Handled the presence of Tiote well but ultimately on the losing side in the midfield battle.

  • Chris Brunt
    0
    0
    3.50

    Chris Brunt

Tested Krul early on with a well-struck free kick from range. Picked up a silly booking for dissent midway through the first period. Took his goal well, leaving the Newcastle keeper with no chance as he rifled home from close range.

  • Morgan Amalfitano
    0
    0
    3.00

    Morgan Amalfitano

Sent in the dangerous cross that caught Newcastle out for Brunt's equalizer. Looked lively down the right-hand side going forward, but often left his teammate Jones exposed when Santon decided to join the host's attack.

  • Youssouf Mulumbu
    0
    0
    2.50

    Youssouf Mulumbu

Was happy to get involved with a midfield war of attrition with Tiote, getting stuck in on many occasions. Didn't cover himself in glory when out-jumped by Gouffran for Newcastle's opener and was booked late on too for a cynical trip on Cabaye.

  • Stéphane Sessegnon
    0
    0
    2.50

    Stéphane Sessegnon

Had a chance to open the scoring but was thwarted by the limbs of Coloccini when the goal was at his mercy. Boos echoed round the stadium every time the former Sunderland midfielder touched the ball and he rarely got the chance to shut them up.

  • Shane Long
    0

    2.50

    Shane Long

Starved of service for most of the afternoon, the Irishman didn't look like adding to his three goals in his last two appearances. Inadvertently set up Brunt when he got a flick on Amilfitano's cross to slow the ball down.
