Atletic Mineiro last lost at home on Aug. 28, 2011, a run of 48 matches without a loss. Galo hadn't dropped a point at home in 2013.

Though it drew 1-1 with Club Tijuana on Thursday, Galo advanced to the semifinals of the Copa Libertadores.

In 13 away matches since January, Club Tijuana had logged over 69,000 miles. The 6,000 miles to Belo Horizonte took over 18 hours to fly. Eventually the exhaustion and inexperience of the Tijuana players told in a 3-3 aggregate result.

Up two goals in the first leg, Tijuana crumbled late, allowing the Brazilian side to equalize and notch two important away goals.

In the second leg, the Xolos took the lead midway through the first half. A sliding tackle dispossessed Ronaldinho at the top of the Tijuana penalty box. Richard Ruiz zipped up the field straight away and thumped a cross into the box. Duvier Riascos met it with a one-time guided shot into the bottom corner of the goal.

Ronaldinho had his revenge. The playmaker with 97 caps for Brazil curled a free kick into the area. Captain Rever swept home unmarked.

In stoppage time, the Xolos dumped the ball forward. Leonardo Silva clattered into Pablo Aguilar and the Chilean referee awarded a penalty. Riascos thumped his penalty, which could have sent his side into the semis, straight down the middle, and Victor saved with his foot.

American fullback Edgar Castillo saw out the full match for the Xolos. Joe Corona didn't play.

Newell's Old Boys awaits the Brazilians in the semifinal.
