International Friendly Preview: Mexico - Peru

While it may be a meaningless friendly featuring "B" squads, Jose Manuel de la Torre is still under pressure to get a win in 2013.

Perú: Libman; Guizasola, Duarte, Callens, Advíncula; Vargas, Guevara, Rojas, Ballón; Ruidiaz, Benavente Perú

San Francisco's Candlestick Park will be the stage for an international friendly between Mexico and Peru. With the match not being scheduled on a FIFA international date, both sides will be fielding their B squads and will be allowed to tinker with their formations and experiment a bit.

In the case of Peru, Sergio Markarián called up players who are mainly active in the Peruvian Premier Division, with the exception of up-and-coming players like Cristian Benavente who features for Real Madrid's reserve team.

On the other hand, José Manuel de la Torre is currently dealing with his biggest crisis with Mexico since taking over in 2011. After getting only three of nine points at the start of the Hexagonal and no wins so far this year,  'Chepo' faces pressure even in this meaningless friendly against Peru.

Mexico features Liga MX players who are 100 percent active and healthy. Familiar faces return in the cases of Pablo Barrera and Rafa Márquez. Others such as Gerardo Flores, Efraín Velarde and Luis Montes will have an opportunity to show off. Failure for Mexico to win would signal major concerns for the FMF and Chepo could be hearing calls from the media to step down.

  • The last game between these teams was a 1-0 win for Peru in the Copa America in Argentina.
  • In 2008, El Tri won, taking a 4-0 friendly result held in the United States.

  • Mexico is 11-9-6 against Peru overall.

  • Rafa Marquez makes his return to the Mexico senior side after not featuring in the previous camp.
