One last push from the Sounders and the Timbers get it clear. That's gonna do it for this match. Portland takes a 1-0 win after hanging on for dear life.
How did that stay out? I take back my earlier comments, Seattle will feel robbed there. Twice tonight the Sounders have crashed a ball off the crossbar.
Free kick for the Sounders is cleared. Moffat throws it back in, it falls kindly for Zakuani, who hammers it off a defender and the bar!!
This game is kind of going out with a whimper. Seattle, down to 10, can't really generate much and the Timbers are taking on individual runs to try and find a goal that would put it completely out of reach. five minutes added on though, so maybe time for some late drama.
Substitution Alex Caskey Andy Rose
Substitution Kalif Alhassan Salvatore Zizzo
Substitution Maximiliano Urruti Frédéric Piquionne
Urruti taken off the field, looked like a hamstring injury, but he's replaced and the game moves forward with Seattle searching desperately for an equalizer.
Ricketts forced into a save!! It didn't look like much, but a slow roller was headed for the corner.
Keep in mind, if Portland can hang on here, The Timbers will jump to the top of the West.
Substitution Clint Dempsey Steve Zakuani
Now the Sounders need to make something with a man down. It looks like Steve Zakuani is headed onto the pitch for Clint Dempsey.
Things have gone south in a hurry for the Sounders. Alonso certainly put his elbow up, and he was sent off for it, and now the game is back on.
Red Card Osvaldo Alonso
Yellow Card Jhon Kennedy Hurtado
Alonso put an elbow in Will Johnson's face, not really a strike, but he stuck it up there and Johnson made a bit of it. Refs trying to get some control of things, and Alonso is gone. Red card handed to him. wow!!! That changes things.
Hurtado picks up a card, and Alonso may be in trouble as well.
No foul called as Yedlin goes down... probably a good no call, but this game has certainly picked up some physicality along the way.
Ianni fouls Jewsbury and the chance is gone, but the Sounders have had the better of play in this second half.
Substitution A. Valencia Ben Zemanski
Dempsey draws a foul. Still holding that arm oddly, but Seattle might have some kind of chance out of it.
Sounders with a nice long spell on the ball, but the Timbers come away with it and try to drive into the attack before pulling it back and then giving it away.
Real chance there for the Sounders, with Hurtado flashing a header across goal from the corner, but the Sounders can't get the finishing touch.
Corner given up now by Kah for no good reason.
Some odd defending out of Hurtado, who misses header, then falls, but somehow in all of it gets the ball away.
First change of the game for the Sounders, Estrada come on, but oddly Dempsey is left on the pitch and Rosales pulled off.
Substitution Mauro Rosales David Estrada
Portland attacking again, but Seattle is back to slow it and the ball gets cycled back through the midfield.
Nagbe's pace when he picks the ball up in the midfield is incredible. He pulls away from defenders and just had another long run there. Came to nothing, but he's looked like a real threat all night.. all season really.
Moffat at the back post for a little clip from Neagle, tried to pull it back for Dempsey but just missed. Dempsey still looks like that shoulder is really giving him a hard time tonight.
Uneasy start for both side with a couple of passes going astray.
We're back underway. Portland leading 1-0 after scoring just before the break.
There's the half. Portland scores just before the break to take a 1-0 lead into the half. Good show from the home side so far. Seattle has been very disjointed, and aside from a couple of chances early on hasn't had much to be happy about.
Yellow Card Kalif Alhassan
Goal Kalif Alhassan
There's the goal Portland has been looking for. Alhassan with a strike from a rebound, and once again Seattle's defense has had a huge let down.
Moffat with a blast of a shot that he pulls wide of the mark. First signs of life from the Sounders in a good little while.
Nagbe with another good chance. A dash forward out of the midfield, ghosted one defender, but Alonso never gave up on his retreating run and made the play to save a goal there for Seattle.
Nagbe with a really nice hit that Hahnemann can only knock down. Valencia couldn't get over the rebound and once again the goal doesn't come.
Not much in the way of chances in this first half. A tough battle taking place in the middle of the park and both teams have been slowed down pretty well through there. Seattle defending well but not stringing together anything moving forward. Portland has looked sharp on the ball, but can't seem to find a way to break down this Sounder defense.
Ianni, for some odd reason, give Portland a throw deep in Seattle territory for no good reason.
Portland hands out a corner to Seattle out of nothing really. No chances taken, but the Timbers get the danger cleared from the ball in.
Dempsey back on the pitch after getting some treatment.
Now Portland with another free kick, Good area for sercive into the box, but Hahnemann holds it well.
Yellow Card Adam Moffat
Dempsey off the field. No sub made yet, but his shoulder is really bothering him.
Portland has really settled in. Seattle struggling to hold the ball at all, an right now the home side is well on top of this match after surviving the early scares.
Really nice run of play down the rigth by Portland. Best speel the Timbers have had so far, but it didn't really lead to anything.
A little bit of a lull in the action, Dempsey spilled again at midfield by Johnson.
Dempsey complaining to the sideline of a shoulder injury. Not a good sign for the Sounders, but he's on the field still palying.
Dempsey denied by the crossbar!!! Seattle putting on the pressure and coming up just short twice.
Dempsey with a dash forward draws a foul, and from the free kick, Neagle flicks toward the corner of the goal and Ricketts comes up with a huge save.
Johnson takes the shot on but sends it well over the bar.
Now Urruti draws a foul in a very dangerous spot for Portland, just on top of Seattle's box.
Neagle tries to bend one into the corner and sends it just wide. First half chance of the game goes begging.
A couple of moves forward for both teams, most notably Chara picking off a pass and rushing down the middle, but nothing really connecting to this point.
Early stages here and it's choppy, both teams trying to settle in.
Early free kick for the Sounders, Rosales to send it in.
Here we go!! Portland and Seattle, coming at you LIVE!
We'll have all the action as it flows to you tonight as these clubs battle, with the winner, if there is one, taking to top spot in the West.
The big concern for Seattle has been the lack of defensive stability in the last two matches, as the club has passed out nine goals, but Leo Gonzalez is back and Marcus Hahenmann in is the goal to try and heal some of those issues.
For Portland, the youngster Urruti gets a run up front, with Valencia and Nagbe forming the rest of the three-man front line. Diego Valeri will not be involved, but the Timbers still have Will Johnson in the midfield to pull the strings.
Dempsey will once again be in the spotlight tonight, coming back off an injury and making his first start for Seattle since missing out for a few weeks. He'll have Lamar Neagle beside him, but no Obafemi Martins, no Eddie Johnson and no Brad Evans in this Seattle team.
Welcome in to Goal's live commentary of the Cascadia clash between the Portland Timbers and the Seattle Sounders. The last time these team's met was in Seattle in Clint Dempsey's first home match for the Sounders, a match Seattle won thanks to an Eddie Johnson header. Tonight they'll play in Portland, and with Seattle's current terrible run of form, the Timbers will be looking to exact some revenge.
