Kenny Miller converted an early penalty kick and Camilo notched a brace off the bench as Vancouver rolled to a big win on the road.

Badly in need of a result on the road, the Vancouver Whitecaps rolled to a 3-0 triumph over the Montreal Impact on Saturday to give their fading playoff hopes a shot in the arm.

Kenny Miller bagged an early penalty kick for Vancouver, which iced the result with two late goals off the bench from leading scorer Camilo. The Whitecaps, who enjoyed their first win since Aug. 10, now are three points behind the LA Galaxy for the final Western Conference playoff spot.

The Whitecaps needed just seven minutes to score. Blowing pass Alessandro Nesta on the right flank, Nigel Reo-Coker hit a pass across the box that Matt Watson fired off the arm of Hassoun Camara for a penalty kick. Stepping up to the spot, Miller tucked his low shot into the side netting.

Montreal appeared to earn a penalty of its own late in the first half when Patrice Bernier's long-distance effort deflected off the upper arm of Jun Marques Davidson. But after initially awarding the penalty, referee Jorge Gonzalez reversed course once he apparently consulted with another official.

Vancouver nearly doubled its advantage two minutes after the break, with Reo-Coker cutting inside and striking the crossbar from the top of the box. Minutes later, Montreal forward Felipe was similarly unlucky when his volley of a Justin Mapp cross rang the bar. And in the 65th minute, Whitecaps goalkeeper David Ousted tipped a Bernier bid off the woodwork.

The Whitecaps finally got their insurance goal in the 89th minute, with Camilo running onto Young-Pyo Lee's clearance, evading a challenge from Nesta, and slotting an angled shot past Troy Perkins.

And Camilo made it a quick brace two minutes later, rocketing home a long-range shot after an impressive dribbling display for his 16th strike of the season.
