MLS Preview: New England Revolution - Philadelphia Union

History and standings are on Philadelphia's side, but the Revs have been hard to break down this year.

What has happened with Jack McInerney?

After scoring a late equalizer against Toronto FC on June 1, the 21-year-old has turned ice-cold. Although his early-season form saw him become the youngest player to top the Major League Soccer scoring charts and earned him call-ups to the MLS All-Star and USA squads, "Jack Mac" has been barren in his last eight appearances, an agonizing 680 minutes without a goal.

In his place, other Union players have stepped up on offense. Veteran striker Conor Casey has scored seven goals during McInerney's dry spell. The club's all-time leading scorer, Sebastien Le Toux has changed his game to focus on service and now leads MLS with 12 assists. Right back Sheanon Williams leads defenders in that statistic with eight, equal with creative forces like David Ferreira and Javier Morales.

That offensive muscle will be put to the test against New England. Although the Union have five wins all-time head-to-head compared to New England's one (with three draws), the Revs boast the staunchest defense in the league, having allowed just 23 goals in 24 games.

Jay Heaps' side still harbors playoff ambitions. Although having played one more game, New England is just three points behind Houston and the East's final playoff spot. Although he's leaving after this season for Europe, Juan Agudelo has been an inspired acquisition, scoring four times in his six games since joining the Revolution.

New England is without striker Saer Sene thanks to a red card, and injuries have claimed Clyde Simms (R turf toe) and Gabe Latigue (R ACL tear). Juan Agudelo (R knee sprain) and Juan Toja (Lower back irritation) are questionable.

Other than questionable fullback Ray Gaddis (R ankle sprain), the Union have a clean bill of health.
