Chivas USA 1-3 FC Dallas: Dallas ends win drought with heroic performance

The Hoops picked up maximum points for the first time since May 25 with a gutsy display against Chivas USA, despite finishing with 10 men.

FC Dallas overcame a late red card to Jackson to come from behind and defeat Chivas USA 3-1 at the StubHub Center Wednesday night, ending a dismal stretch of 11 league games without a victory.

David Ferreira and Ramon Nunez came off the bench to provide the game-winning goals with the club down a man to pull the club into a tie on points with Vancouver for the fifth playoff spot in the Western Conference, although the Whitecaps have the tiebreaker.

Chivas USA opened the scoring late in the first half, as recently re-signed homegrown player Bryan de la Fuente scored in his first game back with the club. Fellow homegrown player Marco Delgado placed a chip behind the Dallas defense, and poor defending from the Hoops allowed the 21-year-old de la Fuente to chest the ball down, turn, and chip goalkeeper Raul Fernandez from close range.

Dallas battled back, though, and secured the win with a trio of second-half goals, sparked by Panamanian striker Blas Perez, who slotted home Fabian Castillo's cut-back cross in the 71st minute to pull the club level.

FCD's task was made more difficult by a red card shown to Jackson after he picked up his second yellow in less than half an hour in the 81st minute.

But Ferreira, who came off the bench to start the move for the first goal, made his time count. Taking a through ball from Nunez, Ferreira curled a low ball past Chivas goalkeeper Dan Kennedy from a difficult left-sided angle and into the far corner.

Nunez completed the result with a goal in the 90th minute, dribbling in from the left, cutting by Mario de Luna, and picking out the far corner with a well-placed blast to seal his club's first victory since a 1-0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes -- FCD's next opponent -- on May 25.
