Chicago Fire 4-1 D.C. United: Joel Lindpere dismantles DCU

Joel Lindpere had a hand in three first-half goals as Chicago picked apart bottom-of-the-league D.C. United.

D.C. United, bottom of the league with 10 points from 20 games, whimpered to a 4-1 loss at the hands of the Chicago Fire on Saturday night.

D.C. had conceded five goals in the last six league games. Then it got torched by the Fire. In only the second minute, Joel Lindpere played a teasing cross ahead of the D.C. defense. Joe Willis got drawn off his line, and Chris Rolfe finished a delicate lob with the goal empty.

A few minutes later, Lindpere scored himself, finishing off a chance created by a long Jeff Larentowicz run with a sliding shot. Then in first-half stoppage time, Lindpere chipped the United back line with a one-time scoop and Rolfe finished casually with the outside of his left foot.

In the second half, Daniel Woolard brought down Quincy Amarikwa from behind in the box. Mike Magee finished the penalty for his 12th goal of the season, tying Camilo Sanvezzo for the league lead.

Shortly before the hour mark, Luis Silva scored a gorgeous, swerving ball from distance on his D.C. debut. Before that goal, United last scored from open play on May 19, nine games ago.
