Toronto FC 0-0 New York Red Bulls: Red Bulls stumble against lowly Reds

The Red Bulls would have gone top of the East with a win, but neither side was able to find a goal.

The New York Red Bulls and Toronto FC played to a 0-0 draw in BMO Field.

New York, coming off a 4-0 win over Canadian Championship holder Montreal. looked to make it successive wins over northern clubs and sieze first place in MLS, and came up against a limping Toronto side fresh off a midweek loss to similarly struggling Chivas USA.

A goal was not to be found by either side, however, with both goalkeepers impressing. Joe Bendik made a good reflex save early on to deny Thierry Henry's close range snap kick in the fourth minute and did well to command his area on two occasions in the 36th minute.

At the other end, Luis Robles was surprisingly busy, sweeping up a dangerous Jeremy Brockie cross shortly before halftime and snatching a Bobby Convey free kick shortly after. His finest moment came in the 73rd minute. The goalkeeper had Richard Eckersley's counterattacking shot all lined up, but had to adjust when the ball took a deflection off a defender, and came up with a great flying stop to touch the effort over the crossbar.

The draw extends TFC's winless streak to six games. The Reds have won just once - against last-placed D.C. United - in their last 14 matches.
