Real Salt Lake 1-1 Chicago Fire: Late goals preserve draw

Minutes after conceding, the Chicago Fire struck back to preserve the draw against Salt Lake in Utah.

Two late goals meant Real Salt Lake and the Chicago Fire shared the points in a 1-1 draw on Saturday night.

Kyle Beckerman and Nat Borchers played their 209th match together, setting an MLS record.

RSL held over 65 percent of possession at home and broke through first. Alvaro Saborio, struggling with a torn quad, came off the bench for his first minutes since April 20. Substitute Sebastian Velasquez fed the ball down the left, where Ned Grabavoy one-timed a cross into the box. Saborio rose highest to finish an emphatic header.

In the waning minutes, Jalil Anibaba took a long throw. Austin Berry nudged it with his head in the box, and Quincy Amarikwa snapped a volley past Nick Rimando from close range.

In his postgame remarks, RSL manager Jason Kreis indicated that striker Alvaro Saborio had re-aggrivated the quad injury that had sidelined him in recent weeks.
